'age' check... Orion XTR 'ferro fluid' subs?

When did/do these subwoofers date from?
1 - Are they old? VERY old? old-school? etc?
2 - are they decent? If they could be had at a very good price, would they compare with woofers of similar RMS ratings today? (IE an RF Punch HX2 or something)
They are Orion XTR's, with BLUE and black colour scheme.
10" SVC 4 ohm, 800w rms.
XTR logo in blue on dustcap with 'ferrofluid injected' (could be off there a bit) in subscript under the XTR logo.

circa 1993-1994
the origional XTR woofers.
they were good, but the XTR2;s that replaced them were a signifigant upgrade with larger tinsel leads that didn't snap off at high excursion.
power handling was pretty high, but like I said, the leads tended to snap at that much power.

"Age" check as in how old are the driver's or how old are we that we can remember them? [img]smile.gif[/img]
Furley's info x2 in case you needed a second opinion. The series 2 also changed to a Sanoprene surround for durability so make sure the surround on these is still nice and flexible.
IMO they're a great sounding driver. They perform best in larger ported enclosures.
500rms a piece is plenty in these enclosures.

Hmm, sounds interesting.
The pic the seller has posted looks markedly newer than that (mid 90's).
Maybe he has just polished them up.
Anyhow, I may pick up, they are ridiculously cheap and match the colour scheme in my vehicle.

I was never impressed with those subs. I remember a review back in the day, it was 3 15's, and 3 8's tested. I think Scott Buwalda's 240 was featured. Anyways, the 15 inch XTR's had the lowest score out of any of the 15's and I think the JL 8w6 came very close to matching it in output.
i used to have 4 of these 10's running off a 225HCCA amp and they sounded quite good. back in the early 90's they were used in many SPL vehicles (when the game was to cram in as many subs as possible (and these babies needed less than 1/2 a cubic foot).
as for spl potential, these things were mean! i remember seeing them move what looked like more than an inch p-t-p! i give them thumbs up.

Found the issue. It was the Nov./Dec. 1999 issue.
Dumax Measurements:
sd (SQ CM)---828
xmax (mm)----6.25
For reference it was tested against the Rockford Punch RFP-1215 which had measurements of:
sd (SQ CM)---827
xmax (mm)----12
Also an 8 tested at the same time was the JL 8W6-CR:
sd (SQ CM)---199
xmax (mm)----11.1
SPL with three different bass tracks were:
JL -average 116.5 - maximum 119
Rocko-average 127.9 - maximum 130.2
Orion-average 123.8 - maximum 124.4
All three subs got basically the same score in actual SQ.
