Almost finished my latest system, drop your 2 cents here!
 

So a little while ago I asked Jalat to design me a nice ported box for my Rockford P1 10's, and he did just that. BUT.. while I was building the box a couple of P3 10's and a P1000.1bd amp happened to catch my eye and after asking a few people if it would work out I decided to try them in the box instead :smilie_da

Am I really sacrificing anything by using P3 10's in the box designed for P1s?

Next steps probably will be:
1. "Big 3".. alternator is in the front, and main battery is all the way in the back so it seems like it's going to be a lot of work and I've kinda been putting it off.

2. Amp for my mids and highs, just haven't had the money yet and they're still running off deck power. (which I was told is still alright for Punch series 6.5s and 6x9s)

3. Upgrade alternator if the big 3 doesn't solve the dimming problem. Before switching the the Purple Haze battery I had voltage drops from 15 volts down to the low 10's, now it doesn't drop past 13 volts but from what I understand that's still bad.

Anything I missed guys?! I'm open to any suggestions!!!!

The box and subs, box is currently in primer and I'm waiting on one of my friends to get the time to paint it cause I'm sure he can come up with a sick design for it. I put a lot of work into finishing the box perfectly and that's part of the reason why I didn't want to toss it aside for the P3's, everything is glued, air nailed, sealed and all edges routered (even that chip off the MDF on the top right corner drives me nuts). But I think I did it right atleast :smokin:

The battery is it for my electrical upgrades so far, more to come for sure. It's the Orbital Purple Haze Extreme Duty Cycle Crappy Tire battery lol. Seems like it compares pretty well to the Yellow Top but that's just my two cents, plus cheaper is always a bonus. I hooked the amp leads directly to the side terminals. That's about as efficient as I can get so far right?

Amp and wiring, that one ground wire that hangs across the amp has gotta go.. just need to go pick up a longer piece. There are a few other little things to tidy up that I'll probably get finished this weekend. BTW, I'm not concerned on what your opinion is on the cap lol :cheeky4: (I know there will be bashing), I just carried it over from my smaller system (which I believe it did wonders for), plus it's a handy little voltmeter.

Looks good. What gauge wire are you using? I know 4 gauge is the recommended wire size for that amp. You might even run something larger for when you put in your second amp as well.

Btw, what car you driving?

that enclosure will do just fine with those woofers.

may i suggest, if not already done so, that all wiring is at least 4AWG. also, a 100A or more fuse is used...

Niiice that's what I wanted to hear haha, and yes all the wire is 4 gauge and there is an 80A fuse right under the cap.. my local audio shop gave me it with the amp.. should I switch it?

Make sure that the fuse you have under your cap is within 18 inches to your battery. I know you said that your battery is in the trunk, but that looks to be more than 18 inches away.

The fuse is probably 3 feet or so away from the battery, why does it need to be within 18 inches?

You mean the 6x9s? I just put them in the stock location, but I was wondering if the subs would be making too much pressure and cause them to distort or worse? What should I do?

The subs will definitely distort your 6x9's. The simplest solution would be to put a couple baffles over the backs of the speakers to seal them off from the trunk. You can buy plastic ones pretty cheap, or fab something up yourself if you have the ambition.

your fuse should as close as physically possible to the battery terminal. The fuse on your power wire is there to protect the wire..not the amplifier!!! If that wire gets pinch or shorts out anywhere BEFORE the fuse it will in all likelyhood cause a fire, and at the minimum your battery will explode in the car.

Also I would give no props, to loose hanging wires. Get some tie wraps and make it more neat and secure.
