Smile Alpine 7901 head unit questions

Ok, I was wrong, I thought I had a 7909, but it is a 7901. (found it in my box of stuff tucked away)

If I'm going to use it, I'd need to somehow find a convertor cable, 8 pin DIN to RCA.

Also, anyone know what one of these are worth? I've seen one reference for about $300.00

I'm thinking, as I need an amp even more so now, of either selling or trading the 7901 for a good working amp. Unless of course I can get DIN-RCA cables, so the 7901 can hook up to an amp. (which I don't have a working amp anyways)

Hi Tim,

If you can't find the DIN to RCA cable, try giving Alpine a call for a copy of the PTG (product technical guide) handout of that deck. It will have the Pin out for that cable, you can hard wire it from there.

If you can get $300 for the deck... sell it. Just like the 7909, it also had problems with the caps drying up and changing tolerance over time.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Rino

Thanks Rino.

Hmm, well I don't want to cut the current DIN cables at all, I'm thinking the deck (it powers on, radio works, CD ejects or does not accept CD however) might be more worthwhile to a collector or someone who could use it without modifying the original cables?

I'm undecided. I could live with my Blaupunkt head unit right now, I'm in need of an amp. At same time, it would be nice seeing this Alpine deck operational in a car again.

On Ebay, there's Blaupunkt and a Pioneer 8 pin DIN to RCA, not sure if they are for most part universal?

Not sure about the Pioneer stuff...

You can find 8pin DIN connectors at Sayal Electronics/Electrosonic etc. and just config the pins accordingly, no need to modify the ends.

If your 7901 doesn't accept a CD, there may be an issue with it?

I know what you mean about the nostalgia of it... I have one for my Camaro

Cheers,
Rino
