Alpine 7909 or 7990 ?

I'm not a car stereo expert when it comes to cd players, but
I have been told / read that these units are the two top notch cd
players to get.
How hard are these to get a hold of since they are from the 1990's ?

Anyone locally have 1 for sale ? I hear the 7909 doesnt play burnt cd's ??

thanks

7909

$600 is still an average price for a well working 7909. How well it stays well working is the question... I used to have a 7909 and I didn't blink an eye selling it.

I would stick to the 7990

If you look at the 7909 that is for sale, the build date is from 1997, and it has the copper chassis, which would make me think that it is one of the 30th anniversary limited edition ones, probably a very pricey deck when new. The 7990 is only a few years old, as far as I know, and I imagine it would play burnt cds, seeing as it is the F1 Status deck, someone correct me if I am wrong on this.

^ not sure where you hear that from..... but as far as I know it'll play most burnt disc if they are not ripped at 12x or 24x or so.

I have a 7909 original 1990 model and have had no issues with it. After 16 years, it needed the bass and treble controls replaced and a volume knob as well. had it serviced and it rocks. Plays burnt as well, but you cannot burn them at a high rate as was mentioned.

7990 is a wonderful piece and sounds terrific, but nothing sounds like an original 7909!

By the way, in an old school Civic or Crx, the 7909 looks like it belongs there...nearly the same year car as CD player.

Old School rocks!

but if a 7909 needs service it could cost you a fortune and its a 15+ year old deck!
