Hey, I am running an Alpine 9835 deck, Infinity 6000Cs components, and two JL 10W0's, off of an MTX 5 channel amp (Pro 400x5). Right now I am running the mids off the front two channels of the amp, using the passives and high-passing the mids off of the deck. Would I be better off setting the deck to 3 way mode and running the tweets off of the front of the amp, and the mids off of the back two channels, using the deck crossovers for the mids and tweets individually? If I did this would I still use the passives in line with them? Thanks for any info you can provide.

I would.
You get to mess with the sound a bit more, and
if anything the passives arne`t eating up any power.

that would be the best way to go, and ditch the passives, they are the devil in car audio

Thanks guys, I guess the only rule is not to run the tweeters below 3500hz, which is what the passives cross them over at.

Go 3 way, you'll be glad you did

hm - to run in the neighborhood of 40 watts a speaker or 150....

HMMM....

I'd keep the passives

If you meant that I am running deck power, I am not, I worded than incorrectly. Right now I am running the mids and tweets off of the front two channels of the amp, and the back half is unused. Once I run a third set of RCA's I will try out the three way setup, I assume the deck will let me play with the crossover points for the tweeters also?

passives provide little if any flexibility, with the excpetion of phase, and the insertion loss and phase shift associated with passives make them a poor choice in car audio. if you have the electronic, or in your case the digital option it would be silly to go any other way, power is a good thing but flexibilty with x-over points and slopes is far, far greater
