Alpine Amp setup question

I'm running a Alpine Mrv F345 and using a single RCA out of my old Kenwood Excelon 5V head unit. Tomorrow I should be receiving a new Eclipse CD7100 with 8V preout.

On the Alpine amp is has input select of 1/2, 3/4 or 1+3/2+4 - Currently I'm running one set into 1/2 inputs

If I run a second set of RCA's and switch to 1+3/2+4 will this give me more of a preamp signal so I can drop the gain?

Manual states this

a) Setting this switch to “1/2” will send the signal
at the inputs of CH-1/2 to CH-3/4 of the MRVF545/
MRV-F345. This eliminates the need for
“Y”-adaptors when using a head unit with a
single pair of pre-amp output.
b) Set this switch to “3/4” to have the inputs of
CH-3/4 accept independent input signals. An
example of this application would be the use
of a head unit with dual pre-amp outputs.
c) Setting this switch to “1 + 3/ 2 + 4” will sum
the CH-1 and CH-3 input and send it to CH-3
while the CH-2 and

Ok....the switch setting is determined by how you want to use the amp. Guessing from your equipment list, if the new deck has 3 sets of outputs, leave the switch at 3/4 and run separate RCAs for the front and rear channel. This will give you the ability to fade from the deck, which can't be done on the other 2 settings.

Also, with that much voltage from the deck, you should turn the gains all the way down when you first fire it up....if the inputs are set for the old one the amp might not like you for a while.....:D

Big Red Guy thanks,

Thanks for the Tip - Way ahead of ya:smilie_da on the gains!

I'm not using the rear channel for rears, but for my doors. The front channel is being used for my kicks!

Does this change on what to do with the selection switch?
