Horrible Alternator feedback - Help!
Hi all, I heard this was a good site to get info on stereo/speaker problems, and I have an interesting one. It all started when the positive and negative leads of my capicitor touched one day. That almost welded the leads together, blew out my previous alpine head unit, and filled the car with a horrible ozone smell. Now, during the summer when the interior of my car gets hot, and after the radio has been playing for a short period of time, I get really bad alternator feedback...at least that is what I think it is. That whine when you accelerate. The noise is not there when the car is turned off, and it is not there when the car is initially turned on. It takes sometimes up to 10 minutes to start. The noise comes in gradually and gets worse until I turn off the head unit, which produces a horrible popping noise. I removed the capicitor hoping that would help (it didn't). I have a Planet Audio 1000w amp that runs all my speakers (I only have 1 10" sub), 2 tweeters and 4 mids. Has anyone ever experienced or heard of this problem...is it my amp, speakers? I'm not sure if it is only a heat related issue as it happened the other day while it wasn't very hot outside (I live in Florida). Any suggestions? Again, this was never a problem until the + and - leads of the capacitor touched so I don't think it is bad/incorrect grounding or an issue with the RCA's, but I don't know. Thanks for any help
