Ok, ok, ok . . .

So I have finally checked out this award winning unit hoping that it'll be the be-all-end-all to my search for in-car video. However, after going to multiple stores with D300 demos they don't have it setup correctly to display video and other features. To those that have used the unit could you confirm these few things:

• No built-in Dolby Digital / DTS?</font>
• No spectrum analyzers or "funky" screensavers?</font>
• No detachable faceplate security?</font>
• No remote control &lt;optional&gt;?</font>
• Does not read VCD or MPEG formats?</font>
• Actually measured 6.5" or 7" screen?</font>

Thanks for all of your help on this matter. As everyone who does have it seems to know virtually nothing about the D300.

it plays vcd no problem. atlaeast mine does. i think it's got dolby but im not sure since i dont care for that feature. the face doesnt not detach. any alpine remote control works for the basic features like volume, play stop and pause. but u cant brows the menu with a basic alpine remote, i think u need one of the fancy alpine remotes for that. the deck has every single feature i personally need and then some more. i have burped my system at 153.1 dbs and the cd player doesnt skip and screen seems to be fine.

i will tell u that this is the best tv i've had so far, and i've had 3 before this. 2 pioneers and one blaupunkt. pioneer had problems playing some vcd's and it would go crazy from spl, alpine doesnt have an issue (so far) with either one. and blaupunk tv doesnt even come close to the alpine unit so im not even going to get into that.

get the unit and trust me u wont be dissapointed.

oh and there is some kind of backround/screen saver feature but i havent figured out how to use it yet b/c i dont really care for that either. lol i've change the backround on the unit when i was playing with the features and then i could not find the way to get back into the same menu so i said screw it.
another thing, the picture quality this unit has is the best i have seen in the mobile video to date. and i dont know if the screen is 6.5 or 7, never looked into that never really cared either.
oh and i dont know about spectrum analyzer, never bothered to look for it.

I haven't played with it to much but it has:
-a 7" screen
-Remote is available for under $100
-Music visualizer is available only with expansion module
-Plays VCD and MP3 also DVD-R
-Dolby Digital Bit Stream (2 channel down mix without outboard processor)
-DTS Bit Stream (2 channel down mix without outboard processor)
-DTS CD
-No Detachable face but it comes with a "nice" plastic cover for all you high enders out there
-A really amazing Direct Touch DVD menu control system that allows you to touch the DVD menu selection rather than using cursor controls
