Alright so I thought I'd try a new deck out and since I've been a dedicated Pioneer user since 1992 I figured I could try something different and went with the Alpine 9835.

I've had it in my car for a week now and I really don't undestand the fascination with these Alpine units. I'm wishing now I never had bought it because it really isn't my cup of tea but anyways.....

ONE problem is this: The sub out has very little output until you hit 30 on the volume and then it comes alive. Seeing that the volume only goes to 35 anyways it's a PITA if you want to listen to something a bit lower than that (like 25) but still want a good kick from the sub. I can turn up the gain on the sub amp but still get nothing. There just isn't enough coming out of the sub preout.

The sub out level is at +15 (max) and the sub pre-out in the crossover section is at 0dB also (each preout can be attenuated).

I have a spare line driver and tried that but it of course didn't help. I'm not using the rear preouts so if I have time today I'll try using them as a preout to the sub amp and see if it makes a difference. The front preouts work excellent and I am completely happy with their performance.

In comparison, with the Pioneer DEX-P1 I had in the car before this I could get almost full output from the sub anytime I wanted just by turning the remote gain. Odd since I would say the front preouts on this Alpine is a touch stronger than the Pioneer's (although both rated at 4v).

Any ideas?

that is why the alpine decks have the ablility to lower the front and rear output levels on both the preamp stage and hi level stage. i find it very handy to have the worh the way it does it gives you a ton of tuning ability, especially in the 3 way mode. alpine cd players historically have never put out a ton of sigal until you increase the volume past 27 or 28. its just a case of proper level matching even if using the internal amplifier and you will have no problem

xm button.

Its a lame solution, but works well.

dave is totally right i run a 9835 and i went from a pioneer to it. and i would never regret the decision. its a wicked deck but you do have to play with the attenuation. i dont really have many problems with my sub out however its pretty strong even when i have it at zero and i keep it between 6 and 8 depending what music i am listening to.

I would prefer to leave the MX off.

I just think it's a PITA for the need to store two different curve levels.

I mean before if I wanted a bit more bass at whatever level I was content at I just turned up the remote gain a bit. Now I have to go into the crossover section and pick the correct curve that I have to previously set.
All I want is a bit more bass at lower volume. It sucks having to constantly change every other setting just to get it.

there are 3 different MX settings. Try using each one. I kept mine on 1-2 and never had any problems. Of course I had many subwoofers and a lot of power, and was not competing SQ or anything...

Yeah I wasn't a fan of the Alpine I had for that reason of the sub out, if I buy anything again it will be a Pioneer deck I had the 740mp and no issues had.

I have my remote bass gain off and my bass level on the HU at zero and the bass is still almost overwhelming in my pickup.

I find the preout strength to be awesome. Not to insult you but are you sure you are using the sub-preout?

You've adjusted the gain on your amplifier correctly?

What are you x-overed at for your sub and what about the x-over on the amplifier?

Sorry but it's sometimes an advantage to check the silly, easy ones first. It's easy to overlook something so basic.

Have you gone to the i-personalize site yet and downloaded and ripped your settings onto disc. It's much easier to make some settings and then pop in the disc to change all the settings.

I did a USACi, DBDrag, Driver only, driver&Passenger group of settings and all I have to do is pop in my disc and choose the setting I need for the application.

Really handy when your at a DBDrag and James wants to judge your USACi SQ at the most inopportune time. Which is usually a minute or two before you have a lane run. ;)
