Well, the other day i went into my local shop to buy some speaker wire, and i walked out with a brand new head unit. I caved and bought the Alpine CDA-9851. Looks like an awesome deck. I've read only but good, except the tilt face seems to have its flaws. So that was ok few hundred more in debt but its worth it. Now I'm goin back to get it installed because I don't know how to do that on my own yet. And its in a newer car so it has a computer and I don't want to mess around. I'm really nervous leaving my car with them for that long, I'm also getting them to run the wiring for my amps while they have the car apart. So I had a few questions, and concerns. Everything I asked they either laughed at or mad me feel incredibly stupid. When I told them I wanted 0 or 1 gauge wiring, they said its pointless, 'What are you going to be doing running a generator?'. Then wanted to charge me $7/foot. They didn't know about my gear, which isn't a huge deal(im going to be running 2 eD 16kvs and more ed gear)but they wouldn't let me say something about it without giving me a lesson in alpine or kaption gear.
Whether or not I know anything shouldn't matter, I think they should be helpful and understanding of my concerns. I'm hoping their work is better than their service.

Ehh they may be honest in saying it's not required, but if you've got it in mind that you may upgrade in the future and you have the cash, why not do it right the first time like you're attempting.

Personally, if they don't wanna be helpful at all, i'd go somewhere else. (i'm not sure on the price part...)

That doesn't sound like a very positive experience to me, in customer service. Are there any other shops around in your area that you can check out. Belittling other manufacturer's gear is never a good sign from a shop, imo. Maybe they are trying to help you, but it doesn't come off sounding that way to me.....

why are you giving them business if they are treating you like that? It's your money, spend it elsewhere.

Hold on before blaming the shop. I WORK in a shop and unless I knew the whole deal on the system I would also be asking why the customer would want 1gauge. It is very true that you can never over kill the wiring BUT maybe when the shop ask about the power wire is that maybe, just maybe the customer handed the shop entry level RCAs. If someone one ask me to run 1 gauge and cheaper RCAs I would ask the same thing. I always tell customer that you can never over kill the wiring BUT in most systems that is installed 4 guage wiring is overkill. It is what Hardcore says, The shop might just be honest.

That's not the point. They were making him feel stupid and laughing at him, that's not how you find out what your customer needs. As you stated, find out what his or her plans are before making ignorant comments like " what are you installing...a generator?" Like I said take your money elsewhere, from my experience these are the kind of places that offer the worst service and from that comment, technical advice.
