Alpine HU's
#1
Hey I'm in the market for a new HU. Leaning towards pioneer, mainly because that's all I've ever used.
But I was looking at some Alpine models.
Just one quick Q, I'm kinda confused on the different models.
What are the diff. between the 9xxx and 7xxx series?
Also, which ones are the higher end ones, and which one are the lower end one?
And if you want, what do you recommed?
Thanks guys.

i would go with Alpine all the way. If you are looking for a good value try the Alpine 9807 MP3 deck. I know here its $374. I think the next Alpine im going to get is the CDA-9815 but either way you will not be dissapointed with alpine.

The 9xxx are 2003 models, the 7xxx are 2002 and older models ...
I don't think you could go wrong with Pioneer or Alpine because they're both great. Alpine gives you a little more internal amplifier power, but Pioneer gives you a lot more EQ options. Pioneers read scratched and fingerprinted discs better, so take that into consideration (My GF's CDA-7893 just flat out will not read discs if they're covered in fingerprints).
By the way, you should be able to pick up a Pioneer Premier DEH-P550MP for like $350-$400 and that comes with a 2-year warranty and 3 pre-outs, unlike the slightly cheaper DEH-P5500MP ... The DEH-P350 is around $300-$325 here, same deck as the P550MP except without MP3 capability.

Thanks, yeah I was looking at some info on the 7995, and 9815 HU's. They both seem pretty good, although the 7995 seems to have limited eq functions as compared to the 9815.
I don't need an internal amp, as everything is being powered by it's individual amp.
I was thinking about going with the 840 if I was to go Pioneer again.
The problem with Alpines, or so I've read, is that they have weak pre-outs...and I don't feel like spending money on a line driver just to boost the signal.

Meh, that's what gains are for So you sacrifice a LITTLE signal-to-noise ratio, but I can honestly tell you that you probably will not be able to hear the difference between a 2-volt signal and a 4-volt signal if there is no induced or radiated noise on the line ... Remember to run your RCAs down the side opposite the power wire AND alternator (if your alternator is on the passenger's side, run power wire down the passenger's side and RCAs down the driver's side) Also, I'd go with Alpine in your case or maybe look into Eclipse, which is a little more expensive.

If i were you i would go with the alpine.
i have a 9815 now and it is the most impressive hu i have ever owned. as far as EQ settings you can set you own on your computer burn them to a disk and upload them into your deck.
I had a pioneer HU before this and it retailed for around $1000, and does not touch this deck for high or low power outputs, and the sound quality is amazing.
