Alpine powered LAT subs

Has anyone heard these? They claim 2x12's output from one of them, and they are pretty small, 8x8x18 inches I believe. If it's true, that's great for preserving space. Comments, experiences....

Are these even shipping yet? I mean I just found out about them today.

Can't say for sure but so far, for everything I have seen in Car Audio, I know two things:

1) If it seems too good to be true, it is.

2) There is no replacement for displacement.

^^well according to the website, it has 6x7" cones and a built in 500 watt digital amp in some "ultra reflex" enclosure. I agree, if it's too good to be true ...I guess we'll have to wait and see.

hmmm ...I'm very interested, but sadly so far in life I've learned anything that's to good to be true usually is, but here's hoping

So it will look like this (700 model)?

Funky looking to say the least. Check the response curve though. It's a little vague on the numbers but I see a nice big arc right around the 60-70 range. Yeah's thats some pounding low-end I can see it having presence and audible output down to say 30 Hz, but don't expect it to shake the air. But that's typical of any subwoofer array trying to use multiple small-cone drivers.

^ and perfect for a home sub application. I found it amusing that Alpine's press release goes on about how THEY are bringing this cutting edge technology to car audio....but they buy the driver from someone else...

I'd like to see one in operation.

Looks to have the same sort of response as a sealed box to me... If you wanted to boost the low end you could probably EQ it...

If it has the same amount of cone area as a pair of 12s and can move them 8mm one way linear then its got to be OK.... a pair might even be loud...

Of course I bet they are trying to sell them for a rediculous price.... but they may be usefull to someone....

Still, a decent installer should be able to get the same job done using the right pair of 8s or multiple 6.5s...
