sory i mean in the alberta area...

Haunz 01-30-2007 04:13 PM

I didn't think alpine offered recones or recone kits... but maybe Tom knows something I don't ?

your only other option is a custom recone..

Tom.F.1 01-30-2007 04:18 PM

W.C. is alpine canada authorized service centre. Send it to them, they'll let you know whether its worth fixing.
If you want to do it yourself, again, they're the only place to buy alpine parts.

zinger002 01-30-2007 05:54 PM

no its just i could get a type r 12 and 2 type e's that are blown for cheap plus the cost of shipping, and i was wondering if it was worth it lol... whats your thought's
??????????????

dogstar 01-30-2007 08:29 PM

call stereo city service in edmonton, they can look at it and tell you whether it can be repaired.

Haunz 01-30-2007 08:45 PM

you can't 'repair' a blown sub unless you replace everything but the magnet assembly and basket.... and my bet is all that W.C. Enterprises can do is get a replacement at some kind of discount....

by all means call and ask....

mikey060 01-30-2007 10:48 PM

get real gear.:stroke:

zinger002 01-30-2007 10:50 PM

... thats not what im asking for, im asking if anyone knows where i can get some recone kit's in alberta/ edmonton area.
thanks for those who have helped and thanx for those who just wanted to chime in with their much unneeded 2 cents...

Brad-S.A. 01-30-2007 10:52 PM

If reconed properly it could save you half the amount of a new driver and sound just as good. Might even want to contact SS Electronics here as he is a site sponsor and see if they can maybe ship out a recone kit.

SPLN00B2 01-30-2007 10:53 PM

Its not even worth the time reconing a entry level pine sub, when you can just go on ebay and get one cheap.

Brad-S.A. 01-30-2007 10:58 PM

Well the Type R might be worth it but your correct in some sense with the E's but if he gets the E's for nothing and there are worth about $130 retail means the cone is around $32.50 give or take and does them himself the means in the pair he would have $65 invested and might be able to sell them for double. Plus be able to give himself a ataboy pat on the back then hey Im all for it.

SPLn00b 01-30-2007 11:06 PM

you have to remember though, recones dont cost $30, and you cant sell used subs for retail, I also dont think he will be getting them absolutley free

thanks.
ive done a kicker, so ive got one under my belt, whats more practice.
the kicker worked fine, still have it.

Brad-S.A. 01-30-2007 11:09 PM

No no i meant double meaning $130 for the pair. And for most about 75% recone kits are about half of dealer cost in Canada. Now thats for the ones I have purchased, havn't done Alpine before but I could be totally wrong too cost wise. ;)

Haunz 01-31-2007 12:18 AM

^ n00b.... the coil scraping comment is kind of harsh and Iam sure you wouldn't say such nonsense to someone inquiring about DD or RE recone kits..... (ect)

At anyrate... alpine (as far as I know) dosen't offer 'recones' or 'recone kits' in the first place........... but if they did a type R or X just might be worth doing! But no, Iam pretty sure they only offer 'throw away' subs.....

otherwise you are looking at a 'custom' job...... FYI I've reconed new and old R's... but I've yet to see a blown X that needed a recone... (must be a solid sub?!)

SPLn00b 01-31-2007 12:54 AM

Its completely nessecary, many people who assume the coils will line up fine end up with them scraping. I do not think zinger002 is qualified enough to recone a sub, but if he wants to, he can go for it, It will just cost him money for another recone when the coil does scrape and the sub blows up again

zinger002 01-31-2007 11:04 AM

you know what helps line up the coil's, run a couple watts through it and a 20-30 hz tone and it lines up its self, the electric feild center's the coil itslef.

zinger002 01-31-2007 11:05 AM

and thanks haunz, thats all i needed to know. but do you know of another recone kit that has all the same spec's as a type r? not for wattage and ohm, but for size, height, coil diam, and so on?

Haunz 01-31-2007 01:29 PM

FYI you use plastic shims to center a voice coil ;)

Like I said you would have to send it to someone who does custom recones.. the specs may be somewhat similar but if its not an exact kit Id recommend having the t/s measured if the drivers are going into a tuned enclosure.....
