Alpine Type R vs Kaption Audio 6.5
Hey guys,
I've been running Alpine Type R 6.5 coaxes straight off a Alpine 7827 deck. I'm looking to replace since I've blown them somehow. Kromer is suggesting Kaption 6.5's over the Type R's (priced with $5) stating that I will get better sound (not bass though). I do have a single 10 in the trunk. Anybody have any comments? Thanks, Matt |
don't they have them on display for you to listen to them? Their idea of better sound may not be yours.
|
how did you blow those speakers running them off of your deck? there has to be a defect with them, or they're old. I'd stick with the type R's or go with INfinity's!!

Yeah I' not sure how they blew up, I haven't had a chance to look at them. They are only about 3 years old.
Infinity eh? Any specific model? |

Infinity eh? Any specific model? The kappa perfects (they might damage your wallet though). |
Both are in the same league. Decent sound and power handling abilities. I would want to find out why you broke these before puchasing something else.
What is your crossover point? Are they loud enough for you or are you turning them up till it hurts them to get what you want? |

They should not blow at 18Watts. Are you sure its the speakers? Did both go or one? Maybe the front amp section of your head unit is done. And as long as your running the speakers off your deck I dont think the Kap's will sound any better then the Alpines. Now if you were running a seperate amp with 50-100Watts RMS each channel then the quality of the speakers would be a hugh issue and you would notice the difference.
|
Just the driver side went. It's been raining in T.O. for a couple of days so I haven't torn the door apart to find exactly what happened.
So your saying with an amp putting out more power the Kaptions would sound noticably better than Type R's? What about vs Infinity's (kappas/reference)? |
Yes they would but if it where my money it would be Focal and then Infinity's for choice. Is it possible the drivers got wet inside the door due to rain. This is common. And if this is thecase you need to cure that before getting new speakers.

So the KAPPA 62.7I would be a good upgrade from both? I will eventually try to amp them!

110w x 2 @14.4 volts (2 ohms) ---------- 80w x 2 @14.4 volts (4 ohms) Will that work? |
Ya that would be a perfect match. That amp does 110x2@2ohms and those speakers are 2 ohms and they handle 75watts RMS but you will run the crossover a bit and you will never have them cranked and everything would have to be perfect including 14.4 volts to that amp in order to put out full power. So yes a very nice match. The Kappa's are really nice to. :)
|
Cool, maybe I'll give the Kappa's a shot. PM me a price dude!
|
PM'ed :)

I have the kappa 60.7, 2 ohm components that are rated for 90 watts rms as a system. I am running the mids alone with a RF 4004 at 2ohms which give them 111 watts each. No problems with power handling, and they sound damn good. initially I was a little worried about running my mid/high speaks at 2ohms, but I'm not anymore. The extra power really brings these speaks to life. So don't worry about your amp being too powerful, it's just right.

Kaption vs Alpine
Just wanted to throw my .02 in. I have a full Kaption Audio system. Which includes Kaption Audio's 6.5" Multi-points. Let me tell you that these speakers are the clearest i've ever heard. If your lookin for great sound these won't you down.:smilie_da :smilie_da :smilie_da

Ok, I took apart the door and found that the tweeter was still working, but the woofer was very hard to move (by hand). Then I dropped it and the woofer will not move at all now. There does look to have been some moisture near the speaker at some point as my MDF baffle is coloured slightly.
What do you guys use to protect the speaker? I have seen half-moon shaped plastic pieces that go over speakers in other cars, but where do you find them? |
I use to sell kaption and there stuff is great for the money. There customer support is the best I've ever seen. Its a small company that takes great care of there customers
|
Kaption
Ya i know they are a very well run company. I have met the owner of Kaption on various occasions. He will do whatever it takes to keep his customers happy. If your showing his equipment, he'll take care of ya.
