Alpine Type-X or JL Audio W7

Alright so here is what i need help with.

I've heard the w7 when my buddy was working at Audio Video when it was getting 1000watts. I got 2alpine type-X's bridged at 4ohm running of the mrd-m1005. So 500watts from amp to 2 subs, 250watts each... i dont think they sound half that bad... My question is. If you had your pick Would you take 10" Alpine Type-X with 1000watt watt or a w7 and why.

I still havent been able to run my Type-X's at even 50% of what they can do since my system is just messed up and complicated

But I've ordered the 200amp Alt from ExessiveAmperage.com(w00t w00t)
and im debating wether to get another mrd-m1005, or the hifonics collosus which is a 2chanel ultra-d amp... 1100watt x 2 @20hm...

How old is this collossus? Only 1100 at 2 ohms? I think either sub will sound a whole lot different with some much needed power, you probably can't lose.

Well, I say the Type X, im not overly a huge fan, but I have heard 2 12" in a proper built to spec box and about 600wrms going to each(cleanly) and it rattled my head so bad!! And on the same note I have heard a jl sub up close and personal, I would not go that route again! but it reallly comes down to what do you want out of the subs! Since you already have the Type X's , Just get a 2nd mrd1005, and have fun!

yeah true... the type x also cost much cheaper... most ppl uses jl for sq perposes...

I would keep the X's, double check the box for them. Are these two amps the only ones you are considering? By the sounds of it the subs you are are the dvc 4 ohm version, can you confirm that please.

250 watts a piece wont even tickle a type x. My vote goes to getting the alpine, since you already have one and the type x's. 2000 watts to a pair of 12" type x's will give you a lot of options as far as box alignment goes (nice sealed box will give a fairly flat response with a little tweaking, ported will have a ton of output).

yea i got the DVC 4ohm subs....
im not considering just those amps... just kind of what i been looking at
and that hifonics is 1100watt x 2 @ 2ohm... so 1100watts to each sub... a lil more then the RMS right? so i was thinking might be good idea to go with that... cus im worried about the amperage draw by my amps from battery and alternator... i have a 70 amp alternator right now, but will have a 200 in about 3 weeks after its built and shipped....

I would just stick with the aLpine Mrd1005's, They are accurate for power, sturdy builds, They are literally a perfect match! I don't know why you would consider getting an amp that is less then perfect quality? Just my 0.02

MR2NR 03-21-2007 01:27 PM

I would try and concentrate on a good quality single amp to run both subs. MTX makes a monster mono amp that would work for this. The second to last model I brought in delivered 1968w rms into 1 ohm mono. A one amp system is going to have far less current draw, wiring, space and wasted energy as compared to a 2 amp system.

I would agree with Rob on this, the space and current draw from a single amp would be much better then adding a second amp, or getting two new amps altogether! However If your going for looks, then 2 amps would be best off ;) unless its ONE huge amp!
