Alt. rebuild/upgrade to 180-200amp?
 

Ok based off what others I have talked to said, and what I've seen online... I'll be needing to upgrade my alt. to at least 180amp to get the most out of my system. Does anyone here know someone that rebuilds/upgrades them? I can't really afford a new HO alt at the moment.

It may not be at all possible to upgrade your alt to 180 depending on your make. It is not as easy as just telling the alt shop to make it any output you want. It may only be possible to upgrade it to say 140 max at your local alt shop, but thats peak, and when you up your peak, you will normally lose your idle output, thats the comprimise. It may or may not be direct fit/plug in, if you go with a larger casing alt. And if you want it to be done properly, you may still end up paying the same amount, because that what they do in the first place. The cheaper rebuilt alts will have less swapped out parts, and thats how you save money, but it will not last. You cannot skimp out on this matter, you really do get what you pay for here. Bottom line, you need to go to the shop, who do it all the time, cause some shops have no idea how to make a good alt, all they know is how to replace your old alt internals for new ones.

hmm... thanks Sasha. Guess I have to hunt around for a new alt then. Sounds like the best bet.

Sasha - I've read on other forums that Honda Alternators are computer controlled - has any one made a computer bypass module for a Honda FIT specifically?

According to your sig, you only have one Class D amp. With the current set-up, you will most likely not benefit from an HO alt at all. Look at it this way, even with your puny stock battery, you're not dieing on the street from lack of amperage. The battery acts like a buffer here, and I am guessing all is well.

You can go to a place where they check your alt and battery for free, and have them test your charging system with your system load(blast it for testing purposes). Chances are you're just fine.

I am no expert by any means in this department, but I am guessing all modern cars are computer controlled, and really makes no diff, as the current demand rises, so does the output. I am not sure, but I doubt there is an amperage limiting feature you speak of. However, FIT could be a diff beast all together. Of course, I am just talking out if my bum now, cause I do not know any better. Just guessing. You may need to talk to alt guys. Call Ray from SVA. He may be able to help.
