Alternator for 2003 2.2l ecotec

i'm looking for a place that will rebuild my stock alt (105amp) to at least 150amps.

2003 sunfire, 2.2l ecotec.

in the gta.

i was quoted $325 for a 175 amp custom built one that will bolt in without mod.

thanks,

Sounds a little on the high side to me. I remember a shop out in Scarborough, and one in Thornhill that both sold higher than stock amp output alternators (stock was 90, there's were 150), and they were $200 or under before tax. But they were simply over wound stock ones. If this is "more custom" like say a larger body so even more windings to get that extra 20 amps, then yah, it may be worth it. Those came with 1 year warranties so long as you didn't "abuse" them, i.e. big stereos, winches, etc. So not sure if it would apply for you.

Thats a good price for a custom built. Youre looking at 550-600 for a mechman or dc power shipped to your door, but they are also 250 amps and up. I would see if you know anyone who has one from the company who quoted you to see if they were satifsfied with their products berfore spending that kind of money.

Yah, at 175A, I'm thinking it's not "custom" and more likely just a stock one with extra windings. And if so, that's expensive.

that quote was from "Canadian Auto Electric" Markham and finch.

is there any one who was happy with their work?

and what other locations should i be looking at?

Exactly. That's the one in Scarborough. Haven't dealt with them in a while, back 5+ years ago, it was decent. Basically a stock alternator with a few more windings, went from 90A to 150A, and cost about $150-175ish depending on your car.

There's another one on Dufferin north of hwy 7 and 407. They used better quality components, and their 1 year warranty wasn't voided by "extreme" usage, say in stereos, and winches, etc. However, again, that was a few years ago as well. Can't remember what their called. Used to be close to where Reptillia used to be before they moved.
