alternator output

alright so i have 2 amps, infinity 1211a that is putting out around 600 watts, infinity 7541a which is putting out another 200 watts maby, everything was working fine until i hooked up a 1 farad cap, im pertty sure the load was too much for my alternator and it got fried so im going to have it rebuilt, whats a good output for an alternator to power that that? and around what can i expect to pay? thanks for your help.

Try hooking it back up without the cap? maybe it no good? Cant see that power frying youre alt.
But i guess if it is fried ya might wanna do a search on alternaters and you will prolly find what you need.

i think its just caus the system was wanting to draw more power than the alternator could handle and it overheated caus it started smoking lol

Least likely. Your alt was probably on it's last breath anyways. You can buy or recoil an alt up to 120 amps with ease and not much strain on the wallet. Anything higher and price will jump quite a bit. I have 120, and have no problems. My Kicker amp is juice pig, but my Arc is very efficient.

Youre alternator only handles so much, it basically juices up youre battery. I have a 200 amp amplifier and a 130 amp alternator, there for by what everyone is saying my amp wouldnt pooch my alt. NO, youre battery does some of the work too. Thats why a battery can vary in power. If youre altenator did all of the work guys burping would be changing their altenators every weekend. Even though youre alternator is gone i suggest what sasha suggested get it rewound. Its cheaper then buying a new one, and with the many you save get a new battery... not to big though that it stresses out your altenator more.

the size (amperage) of the alternator was probably fine before it was just due to fail so a rewind is OK and a rebuild to factory spec should also be fine.

600 watts of BASS power is 50 amps max draw and unless you are pounding hard all the time a standard alt is more than fine. We have been making asumptions... like the size of the alt you did have... but yeah the electrical system is just that a system, if one thing fails it tends to take things with it.

Now for the question.. was the alt failure a coincidence or was it due to electrical miswiring of the cap... or is the cap faulty... we dont know and neither do you... and since your alt was flakey did it take the battery with it when it failed

the alt was only about a year old, the battery seems to be fine. stupid stuff, i hardly noticed a difference with the cap, i mean the bass was a bit more crisp but for 150$ i can think of better ways to spend it
