So, int he enternal quest to save money and also support audio systems in two diff cars, I stumbled across an interesting amp at Best Buy.

Yes yes, we hate Best buy, etc...but bear with me.

It is the SONY xm 2200 GTX.
It does 200w rms x 2 @4ohms and 500w rms x 1 @4ohms

They had it priced at 249.99...thats 50 cents a watt..which I believe to be a very decent price...

This amp is PERFECT, power wise, for one of my setups. I need about 450w rms @4ohms...so I figure this should fit the bill quite nicely.

I know, its a sony...but 'should' it be OK if I am running it within its specs?

Anyone have any experience with this amp?

Anyone want to voice their feedback on these in general? I mean, yes, Sony XPLOD is not the BEST, not even GREAT, but is this a servicable and decent amp for an everyday driver that is more about having some sound than a lot of sound...

Thanks in advance.

Don't by any Sony stuff it's the worst mistake you can make. Sony = PYLE, PYRAMID... I'm sure this will be cheaper and better http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?...ore=&catid=307 281.46$cnd TX&S&H inc. msrp is 549.99$cnd Do 880wrms mono @4ohms you can have for a little cheaper, a less powerful amp.

I bought a 2100 gtx to power one 10in 4 ohm sub and its was sub par at best. My co worker has the identical sub running off a sony mono block and you would not know they were the same sub.I have since givin the sony duty powering my components which works really well and have a crossfire bmf100d coming for the sub. Btw xiph0id had a few of these amps for sale if you do a search or pm him.Im expecting mine this week and will let ya know howit works when i get it if you like.

The Sony amp is fine... they are not as bad as Pyramid or any other "discount" amp. However, in the $250 - $300 range there are other choices which also merit your inspection such as Rockford, MTX, Alpine, Concept, Dragster among others that might serve you better for a simular price.

Hello
I had a sony Xplod amp (a '760' watt rated model) driving a 4 ohm single 10" for everyday driving. It X-ploded. Invest your hard earned money in something better. Even used equipment (chosen well) can be a great buy. For example: a brand new Ford Taurus for $20 000 or a second hand loaded Toyota 4 Runner for the same price. There's no comparison. (These are just examples, but somewhat accurate). Keep asking around and good luck...

I don't see much wrong with the Sony, but as Mike brought out there are also equivalent level models from other brands that qualify having a look into.

sony car audio = junk. they rely on flashy looks to sell, not quality of product. if you want to keep cost down get an MTX they are low cost and fairly decent

I'm not a big Sony fan but I have never had any problems with any Sony amps I have installed
