not many from the looks of it transistors can be chap or very exspensive had a sony amp in price on the transistors was over $ 50 each and there were 8 per half channel do the math there mr transistors are cheap p.s. sony uses obsolite parts so they buy up old stock for a deal then when you need to get it serviced the only source for parts is from them unless you willing to pay for a production run from the manufacturer IRFP064N aprox $5/ea ( but you need to buy a rail of 25) so $125 + labour IRF9640 aprox $3.5/ea ( but need to buy rail of 50) so $175 + labour IRF640 aprox $3.5/ea ( yes same ... rail of $50) This is nonsense E-Sonic is quoting $1.50 each qty 1 http://www.e-sonic.com/acc/products.aspx?command=detail&partID=IRF9640&partID Ext=212 I have purchased from them to fix amps several times. and there may be other substitues if you cannot get the exact part. This is an audio amp, not the space shuttle. How do you know that sony uses obsolete parts? If I was making a few in my garage mayb... but dont think major manufacturers use obsolete parts this is just bad risky business. They always make sure there are alternate supliers. What I am trying to get at is that if couple of transistors are blown on a channel, sure go ahead and fix it. But if almost every transistor is fried, who knows what else is blown.. It becomes very risky to fix it. |
:)
you forgot to read the rest of the information on that page... it says: "Ordering Information Price per 1 EACH:1.511 Standard Package Qty:50 Minimum Order Qty:400 Quantity Available:0 Lead Time (days):73 " meaning they have 0 in stock and need 73 days to get them... and you must order 400 minimum! meaning it will cost you $604.04 and will take 2.5 months to get them which will you chose? |
^ mouser has the same IRF9640 fets in stock for just a little more then $1.50 and there is no minimum... digikey has IRFP064N-pbs which is higher power and there is no minimum...
ordering from more then one place is a pain and you pay more for shipping, but I also thought your example was bad... no need to buy 400 or even 50 if you look around.... |

replacing transistors is easy, buy them and do it yourself provided those specific mosfets arent expensive, i have seen them at 70 bucks each before for some really high current ones. www.digikey.com or www.sayal.com. before replacing them you might want to find the root cause of them blowing or you will replace them, power it on and they blow again unless it blew cause you did something dumb so you already know why?

I also would not recommend handling mosfets without precaution as they are extremely sensitive to static electricity discharge which you will not even feel but you could be zapping them to death
