I have 2 12" kickers, i got them from a friend, but i have no idea the wattage to give em. Anyone have a suggestion for what kinda amp to get? I want to get the max out of them but not blow a ton of money, especially if i am going to be over-powering em anyway. I tested em with my house amp and they pounded friggin well, but i don't really know how much i was giving them.
Anyone got a suggestion? I saw an amp that was like 400+ watts at 4 ohms. that enough ya think?

if you were to put what model of kickers they are it would help...

hmm, ok, they are in a box and all, will it be stamped on the sub itself or anything? I'll go look anywayz.

coulter 02-01-2005 03:04 PM

are they round or square? they may say on the front what they are.

Says competition c12a on the subs, other than that nothin useful.

Seth C 02-01-2005 03:06 PM

round

coulter 02-01-2005 03:16 PM

well from what i found on google, they handly 150 watts RMS, so a 400 watt amp would be good just dont turn it all the way up. a little headroom is good so you dont clip the signal.

then you also need to find out what voice coil configuration the subs are in order to get the right amp.

Seth C 02-01-2005 03:31 PM

lol, not be a pain in the ass but i'll need more explanation on that voice coil config.

Seth C 02-01-2005 03:45 PM

anyway i wondered if this would do it, http://www.crutchfield.com/S-P6Ksi5h...3KAC7201&g=110
but ya i'd still appreciate ya explaining the voice coil thing. :D

voice coils on subs have different impendances measured in Ohms. most subs have either 2 or 4 ohm voice coils on them.

take a little look at this webpage, it should help you out a bit.

the best way to tell would be to take the sub out and look at it.

The C12a is rated for 400rms and it came in either single 4 or 8ohm impedence.
-sensitivity 89.56
-frequency response 25-2k
-polymineral cone

Find out the impedence and then you can start looking for an amp.
This driver was designed for sealed box's and I would look for an amp ~600-800rms for best performance from these.

coulter 02-02-2005 02:39 AM

lol guess i was way off. could hardly find anything for that sub on google.

Seth C 02-02-2005 05:10 AM

ya i could hardly find anything either, but i am pleased to find out that its that high, it seemed to me that the were taking more than 150 when i was playing them in my house, but then again wth do i know lol. And ya they are 4 ohm, i already knew that, sorry shoulda said it. ;) , so then that amp under powers em by a bit, ok. Ya they are in a sealed box, but is that the only way to do it, because i would way rather port the box, is that a bad idea?

Seth C 02-02-2005 05:30 AM

o ya and where did you find that info on its specs? I was just wondering, cause i didn't find anything near that, anyway, when i put the subs in my car i gave em a testing, and it made my RV mirror rattle quite loudly, do i just have to deal with u figure? or waht can i do, i mean putting my hand on lightly shuts it up....
