amp problem

hey, doing my first install this weekend. got new deck installed fine (panasonic cq-c9700u) and i ran all my lines to the trunk for sub/amp. i checked with a voltmeter and the ground, remote, and 15v power line from the battery all are working fine but my amp (alpine MRP-M650) doesn't turn on. the fuses are fine too. ideas?

remote wire??

PsychoAcoustics Canada 03-16-2008 01:06 PM

yeah did you hook up the remote wire to the amp?

patman_h 03-16-2008 01:19 PM

yah the remote wire is hooked up and it seems to be working (power when deck is on/ no power when off)

Did you check power at the amp terminals when the radio is on?
If there's a bad connection (like ground wire) it may show voltage without a load on it, but once you power it up the connection can't handle the current and the voltage drops.

yah i have measured everything from the terminals... but there seems to be no voltage drop because the unit doesn't even power on momentarily...

In your first post you said you checked the fuses. I assume you mean the 2 on the amp since the wires have power.
If the power/ground/remote wires are fine and the fuses are fine that leaves only the amp. I would tripple check the circuit with another 12v devise (amp or test light) just to be sure but by the sounds of it. It most likely is the amp.

Hey, I would first check and make sure you have a clean ground. Also, check that you wired the remote lead to the right one on the headunit harness. There are 2 blue leads but one has a white stripe. One is the remote and I am pretty sure the other is for a power antenna or something like that. If that's not the problem, check the outputs on the HU, they are labeled and the rca's should be connected to the one labeled sub w. out.
