amp/protect

Ok heres another deal I am facing. I have a cheap amp (Lighting Audio) jsut in a beater car. Anyhow the amp keeps going into protect when i turn it on. Ground is good, new fuse, and tried bigger wire. Anyone else have any suggestions?
Thanks

Is your load 2 or 4 ohms? A lot of amps that aren't made for high current will shut themselves down as soon as you turn them on, if they are loaded below 4 ohm.
An easy mistake to make, if you have a dvc 2 ohm sub and wire it in parallel instead of series, you get a 1 ohm load when you meant to have a 4 ohm load.

Unplug the rca cables and the speaker wires. If the amp still goes into protect, the magic smoke that makes it work has been released and it is time for a new amp. If it goes out, plug in the rca cable. If the amp goes into protect again, check the rca cable for a dead short. Next check the speaker to see if it is good or not. Check the speaker wire to see if it is grounding out as well.

Well I guess that it is time for another amp. :( No money today to get one.

On a second thought, we could check it for free if you're in the GTA. It could be a minor problem and you'll never know if you really needed a new one at this point. Call us if you're interested.
