Amp question
 

alright I am looking into buying some eclipse 5.25" components now I need an amp for these so should I go to a 2 channel or 4 channel? Can you give me the names of some decent amps that will work with these components.

Well it all comes down to, are you going to run more then just1 set? if so defintly go with the 4 channel, if only the one set, then you could easily get away with a 2 channel :D...as for brands, many will argue, but im fond of Alpine, kenwood, and Kicker. There are several different numbers in the amps, depends on which model you are getting, try to match the RMS numbers all up, like if your speakers are 75rms, then get a 75rms x 2 @ 4ohms amp :D..just my 2cents

Also what is your budget. If you don't have a huge amount of money and want a great amp the new USAMPS Xterminator series. That would be my choice. Also keep in mind if you get a two channel and run it in stereo mode at 4 ohms you won't be running the amp at full potencial. So you might be paying more for power your not using. If you get a 4 channel and run it in bridged mode at 4ohms then you are get all the power you paid for and if for some reason you decide to add rear fill you have the 4 channel and can control all the channels. I like the 4 channels for full range for these reasons. And If you ever get a set of comps that you can bi-amp you can do that too. Yes 4 channel amp are a little more money power for power but a little more now can mean less in the long run.

ok so I am most likley to go for a 4 ch amp now I am deciding either between
Alpine MRP-F240 or Pioneer GM-6150F which one of these amps do you think would be better to power a pair or Infitiny Kappa components or the new Eclipse components (both components are 85 watts RMS)....I am also deciding on which type of components to get

Of those 2, the Pioneer is rated for more power....having said that, either amp, bridged into 2 channels, will have more than enough power to run any set of components you want to hook up....:smilie_da

As for the type of components, I assume you are trying to decide between coaxials and component sets.....my best suggestion for that is to first find out what fits in your factory locations, and take a CD of music you are familiar with and listen to it on speakers that fit in those locations. Unfortunately, it only gets more complicated after that....:cheeky4: :D

I would disagree with this statement, on SQ Vs. SPL.
If only one pair of speakers are to be used, than a 2-channel is in order. Acquiring a 4-ch. and bridging it's outputs will in fact give more power, but also more distortion. If more power is what you're after, than get a proper high power 2-ch. amplifier. Consider that each amplifier requires a power supply, in a 4-ch(multi-ch) amplifier, a single power supply is used for all outputs. in Bridged mode, that power supply is being strained, which results in poor SQ.
Whereas each 2-ch. has an independant power supply, and can easily supply transients without breaking up.
Which will sound BETTER? 4x40 bridged = 2x80W (into 4ohm load =2ohm reactance). or 2x80 @ 4Ohm?
