Amp selection: Kenwood vs JBL vs MTX
Hello again,
I am still looking for an amp at a decent price. With the dollar above par I am falling to the temptation of online ordering from the states (it helps that I have a US address to have it mailed to as well). Anyways last time I posted I had determined that I was interested in the Kenwood KAC-X1R. Since then I have found good deals on a couple of other amps as well, namely the JBL GTO1201.1 II and the MTX TA7801. I am looking for SQL and will be powering a pair of JL Audio W6's or a single W7. I am hoping to heer feedback on the amps above. I am also interested in the Hifonics too, but don't know too much about them as far as sound quality goes. My price range is about US$350. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers. Kelly |
Well, JBL is out. I really dont like it. So it is between Kenwood and MTX. Kenwood looks really nice, and has digital interface, which is pretty. Some people on this forum seem to like it a lot. MTX is no slouch, and probably puts out quite a bit more power than Kenwood. Brand wise, I am leaning towards MTX.
I pick MTX. |

I pick MTX. WHY? |
Hello again, to further clarify things I am hoping to find a brand that makes more than sub amps as well. I will eventually be buying the matching four channel amp for use with my components and 6x9s. One of the reasons I like the Kenwood is that I prefer their decks and probably replace my current deck with a Kenwood when I get the multichannel amp.
In light of this, how is the sound quality of the MTX multichannel amps? Why you don't like the JBL Sasha?... |
Hmmm jbl gets my vote, better sound quality of the three

JBL is quite nice

SQ is of no issue with those amps, they all sound great, and honestly I've used all the brands many times with excellent results. You can't lose with any of them. Chose the one that best suits your needs and wants. Really it comes down to physical appearance, size, and features for the money.

I'm sure any of them will do a fine job.
I like, and am using MTX in my current setup. |
Hi everyone, thanks for your input. I decided to continue with the Kenwood KAC-X1R amp. Hopefully it was a good decision... I will give an update on the performance once it is installed.
Cheers, Kelly |
you will be very satisfied with your purchase. VERY nice amplifier.
