amp specs
Hey all
I know a about audio in general but trying to learn more and more about car audio. I currently have two amps in my possesion. I bought a Alpine V12 mono block a few years ago and have been using that to drive a 12" (recently got rid of the 12. I have recently inherited a pioneer premier amp (2 channel).Iam just trying to determine what is the better amp. Eventually I will probably use both , I want to ket a pair of kick panels and will use the premier. In themean time with just a sub what is the better amp? How does one distinguish besides just the power rating? I am putting the specs down below if this helps. Thanks for any and all input!

not sure what your asking
but you cant use the Alpine to run anything but subs because its mono not stereo amp
these 2 amps were ment to do 2 different things
however you could do your whole car with the Premier some caps and a bass coil
but 2 amps is better

jl audio all the way hahaha. j/j.
but is true.. one is 2 channels and the other is mono. they are meant for different purposes.
but since u are using to power ur sub, i would sugguest the Alpine, simply i believe alpine will produce a cleaner power than the pioneer

thanks all, I knew that the Alpine was the mono, but the pioneer could be made a mono too. I am just trying to make sure I am using the best amp for the sub.
The alpine has a max of 200w at 2ohm at 14.4v with 0.3 thd.The Pioneer has a maxof 480w at 4 ohms at 14.4 v 0.4 thd. It also says EIAJ, what does that mean?

another thing, thePioneer says it is bridegable. Is that the function of the output rca's? It has the input (of course) and a set of outputs. The amp states it gives it'smost power bridged 1ch 4ohms (480 W). How do you bridge?
So monoand bridged are the same thing? Then what are the output rca's for?
The amp does not state 2 ohms bridged but you are saying it can handle that? I am suming that when the description says maw power it means 14.4v? What does the Maximum Power (EIAJ) stand for?

output rca's let you hook up a second amp so its like they split your RCA's
ohms refers to the speaker load you put on the amp
1 speaker 4ohm=4omhms on the amp no mater if its hooked up bridged to to 1 chanel
1 speaker 4ohm dvc=8ohms or 2ohms so would be a 8 or 2ohm load on the amp
2 speakers 4omhs = the same as above
and so on

IMO if you are just going to use one of the two amps I would use the Pioneer. It produces more power and the Premiere line was noted to be quite underrated.
To bridge you will hook up 1 positive and one nevative to the sub, but use one from either channel. Meaning use the + from the right channel and the - form the left channel or vice versa. It should say which ones are for bridging right on the amp, if not it will in the owners manual.
Good luck,
