Amp and sub setup

Hey guys, I have 2 RF punch HX2 dual 4's (500W rms/1000W peak each) and a JL J2 1000.1 D (monoblock 1x 1000W rms 1ohm/700W 2ohm/400W 4ohm). I originally had both subs wired to 1 ohm running on my amp but it eventually got stuck in protect mode. I took it in, got it repaired (the guy wrote on receipt he soldered some internal parts), and put it back in wired to 1 sub at 2ohm and it was still in protect. I eventually figured out it was my ground... DERP...ANYWAYS, I was wondering if I would be able to run both subs at 1 ohm again, if the original issue was the ground and I got screwed out of some money, or would my amp blow again so stick with the 1 sub at 2 ohm?

You probably damaged something inside by overheating the board....if he soldered it back together then you did not get screwed on the repair and you are lucky you didn't pooch it again before you fixed the ground issue.

The amp should run fine now....hook both subs back up and keep the gains down to minimum while you test the system to see if the amp is going to heat up again.....once you find the point where the amp is starting to distort back the gain off a bit and you should be done....

So as long as I keep the gain down a bit I should be okay? Also, (kinda a noob question) what does the distortion sound like?

This is an extreme case due to a borked amplifier:

Buuut, that's the sound, when you hear the speaker vibrating instead of making sound or when it doesn't sound nice anymore you're entering distortion range.

Dilatory your link would't show for me. Also, should I disconnect my speakers in the back for a better listen on distortion? (They are only stock)

Okay, I just listened to my sub on a higher volume and I could hear a weird sound I think it was distortion. It sounded like the sub was hitting a plastic part.

Ok fixed that plastic noise turns out it was a wire from the cone to the terminal of the sub that had busted off. Soldered and back to norm. But after running my sub for a while my amp seemed pretty hot. The gain wasn't too far up and wasn't distorting or anything so should I still put the second sub in? (It's a pretty hot day out, but I just don't want to blow my amp again and have to send it in... again.)
