Amp and Sub Value

It is a Clarion 12" 500 watt sub in a box with a Logic Soundlab 980 watt amp.
He is asking $250 but he'll take $200. Is this a decent deal? I am just looking for a low-mid range sub system for my car, it won't be the main focus just an added touch.

I just have a cheap $100 deck JVC KD-G230 but I am assuming that is enough for my needs.

PS is there anything I can look for to see if the amp or sub is in decent conditions besides obvious dents or tears? I am assuming it will be in decent condition because I will know where he lives when/if we decide to do business. hah
thanks guys.

well it wont be mad crazy bass or anything... but it would be fine for your needs and $200 for something you just drop in is pretty damn hard to beat.

if you're just looking for a little extra low end, it seems like something that would satisfy your needs.. just make sure you do a good install on it (and take the amp off of the box!)

When you say good install what gauge wires should I order? Can I get away with 8?

I would go at least 4 gauge. I made the mistake of wiring my car up with 8gauge originally thinking that's all i needed... However I decided to upgrade from my 10" to a dual 12" and had to rewire it all over again. Might as well do it once. Not a bad deal.

I managed a decent deal myself for $200 :P 2x Audiobahn AW1205's, 1x Kicker KX400.1 and 1x RF Punch 100a2 :) Some older gear, but pounds nicely ;)

I used to have a sealed CVR15 with 500W, it was fine for an added-touch but I only paid $250-300 for the setup. If you plan on being a basshead then save up, you're probably going to switch it out anyways, so you might as well get what you want.

yeah, go with 4, i also ran into a problem thinking 400W was gonna be enough, but after a while you'll probably want more (maybe i just went a little deafer?) 4 guage will make the upgrade into a much smaller hassle, and it really doesn't cost a whole lot more.
