Amp and Subs?

if i have a 12" pioneer sub at 800watts maximum, and around 250watts minimum handling....then how much watts should my amp be?

and does anyone know where i can get some manuals for my mazda protege se? or maybe some good books to read and learn from, thanks.

This depends on the model# of the sub. Pioneer has subs that are single and dual voice coil. What is the model#?

I'm assuming it's around 300-400rms.
As for manuals, get a Hayne's or Chilton's repair manual.

the model # is Pioneer 12" Subwoofer (TS-W301R)...thanks again.

Your sub is single 4 ohm voice coil. If you have only one sub, choose a 2 channel amplifier that will bridge mono with between 250 - 400w rms.

would you know of any good amps with a price range of 100-200$ that'll be good for my system?

Look around the classified. Someone has a Coustic 400w Class D amp that should do fine. You'll be pushing it at 4ohm so approx 200w. If that's not enough, there are others that should fit the bill.

Hey guys, what do u think of two 12" pioneer subs (TS-W301R) and an 800watts legacy amp, with a Dual XDM7610 deck? Are they all good for my Mazda Protege? And is the deck an ok one, or is it just horrible? Thanks again.

WOW. Thats easily the ugliest thing i've ever seen. OUCH.

I would be very worried about durability with something like that. Personally, I try to avoid motorized faceplates unless the build quality of the mechanism is very good (how it it connected to the face, what materials, is it solid feeling?). In the case of decks like this where the fold out part has the controls on it, this is even more important. In terms of sound, you will have to try it out for yourself. I assume that the internal amp isn't very good, which I assume about virtually every deck.

Basically, go see it in person, see what you think about its performance, build quality etc, and then weigh its qualities with it manufacturer and warranty. In my case I have a JVC deck, which because it is part of their Arsenal line, has a three year warranty. Is JVC the best? No. Was the deck really cheap? Yep. I do know though that I have something that will last three years at the least, and by the I'll be able to pick up something much better (since I wont be buying amps/speakers/subs at the same time... i hope).

Also it sounds like you are working towards a price. If you are trying to save some ca$h, you really should check out the Buy/Sell forum. You'll save some money and probably get some better equipment too. Buyer beware of course, but worth taking a look at.

If you're looking for under 200, that pioneer sub works great with the poineer 5200T stereo amp, bridged to mono for 380 wrms. FutureShop will price match WalMart. :ohwell:
If you go with 2 of those subs, hook them up in paralel and use the pioneer premiere mono amp D1000M, but that may put you out of the price range.
I use a 5100T for each sub, 380wrms each.
