Amplifier Gains.. not setting.. it's a different question..

so i'm attempting to set the gains on my amps.. now what am I doing wrong here.. I set my hu to 3/4 vol.. everything to flat.. turn my gains on amp down fully.. then I set my multimeter to voltage.. and i know its workin cause I tested it on the 12 lead of the amps and always shows 12v.. anyways when I connect the meter to the speaker connection on the amp I get nothing showing.. withg gains min or max I tried with the speaker wires connected and disconnected.. wtf am I doing wrong here? im going by the ole method of

V = square_root(150*4) = 24.5 volts since my amp is doin 150 x 1 @ 4 ohms..

what idiot mistake am I making here?

I use the voltmeter method when setting two separate amps on each coil of a DVC sub.

Some eq's will have LED showing distortion of HU.

[COLOR=Black]A TEST-TONE running through the speaker itself or through a model? Will this completely limit the over-all clipped out-put of the deck?...with-out loosing dynamics?[/COLOR
