Which amplifier to get?

Hi,

I'm planning on upgrading my car audio soon and I have a couple of questions you can help me with. My car is a 1998 Ford Mustang coupe non-mach system (4 speakers- 2 in front, 2 in back).

1. I plan on buying all the main components on-line then paying a professional to install them. Is this a good idea or should I buy everything from them even though it's more expensive? Also keep in mind, I'm a clueless about this stuff so there is no way I could install it myself.

2. I plan on getting 2x Type R tweeters, 4x Type R Speakers, 2x 10in Type R Subs. What type of amplifiers would I need to get to run this system? I planned on getting Alpine amps (these). Is that a good idea?

3. I also noticed with the sub that there are 2 different 10in subs (this and that one). What makes them different?

4. What size speakers fits in this car? 6x8?

Thank you!

Yes, the car takes 6x8 in the doors and the rear tray. The difference in those subs is one has dual 2-ohm voice coils and the other has dual 4-ohm voice coils. Which you choose will depend on the amplifier you choose to run them. If you are going to use an Alpine mono amp for two of these subs, you want the D2 version.

People will have all kinds of opinions on what brands are better than others. Alpine makes good gear and you should be happy with these choices. I would consider putting a set of SPR-50C components in the front though rather than a pair of 6x8s and extra tweets but only if you are going to use an amplifier on the highs as well.

May I suggest you talk to your selected installer before you buy all this...he/she can give you good advice.

Thanks for the advice! I've decided to get my stuff through an installer so I don't make any mistakes...and I'll probably go with Hertz Hi Energy speakers. Is that a good idea?
