Amps problem
hi !
I have two amps (one Orion 4 X 50w and one PhoenixGold 200w)... and both becomes really hot, even if its low... After two or three days, my PhoenixGold stops working. The fuse was over, so i changed it twice, but everytime i start my car, the amp works for a second and after the fuse brake again... But since my PG dosent work, my other amp does not heat... Anyone knows what could be the problem ? I'm not using any capacitor, but my car (Yaris) is brand new so my battery should be OK for that.... thanks !! |
are you using the factory speakers and head unit? how are your amps getting power and ground and signal input?
|
no,
Im using an Alpine 9853, with 4 MB Quart speaker, and an Infinity sub. I have a 4G wire - 30A fuse - from my battery to a splitter to 2 8G. One 8G goes to my Orion (4X50) and my other one for my PG. My remote is splitted and tapped (maybe thats not the best thing to do...) I have two separate ground for each amps, and Im pretty sure they are allright... I forgot one thing, when I change my fuse on the PG, sometimes it does a little sparkle, but the fuse dosent blow away.... I think thats because the power is still connected ? should i unplug the Power when i change fuse ? thanks !!! |
the spark is due to the amps internal caps charging quickly.
what happens if you disconnect the speaker leads and turn on the system do the amps still get hot and blow the fuses? |
A 30a fuse is a little small on the 4 awg for those two amps isnt it? id put a 60a in place.

Which fuse is blowing? If your inline 30A fuse isn't blowing then don't get a bigger one - you'll only be asking for more damage. Also, Orion multi-channel amps always did get hot, I don't know if you've got a DEI made one or an old school one, but i've got a whole Orion HCCA system and them amps are known to get extremely hot. Did you check your system voltage? If you are running on the low side of voltage your amps could burn up, being why when 2 are running at the same time they would get hot but one will stay cooler when running by itself.
ALso- splitting a remote wire once isn't a problem, it's when you do it about 4 or more that you'd need a relay setup. |
my 30A is OK...
I have disconnected my Power, and my speaker, put the fuse on the amp and when i started my radio, the fuse broke again... My Orion is getting hot, but at least is working, its my PG that stops working... but it was getting hot when my two amp were on... What is a DEI made ? My orion is a HP-4600... pretty new... anymore suggestion? U think my amp is over ? :eyes: |

DEI bought out Orion a few years ago, basically they're not the quality that they once were (but still better than alot of what's out there). There's got to be a short somewhere in the system. If not in the wiring then internally within the PG amp. I don't know how this would affect the other amp in the system though.... |
ok..
well my wiring is OK im pretty sure... it must be internal problem... :eyes: |
