Another my amp cuts out! - don't yell at me, I did a search!
 
Hi people!!

I'm having a problem with my amp cutting out after playing for about 1 min.

My setup is:

x-plode HU
MTX Amp - RTP251D
10" Rockford P1 4ohms.

Used 4 gauge wire for power.

Its in a 95 pathfinder and sounds great when it works!
these pathy's have stock amps for the stock speakers.

The thing that I find odd is that it will not cut out if I play it when the engine is not running. I have had that lil 10 just pounding with the engine off, but with the engine running and the gain at about a half a turn, it cuts out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like when it's running something is stealing all the juice from the batt/alt, if you have a DMM test the power at the amp with the vehicle on then off....its a start.

Add a wire from the ground of battery to the chassis, at least a 8 gauge. And check that the ground amp , don't move.

Do you mean check the ground wire from the amp to make sure its secure?

Or somthing else.

I've checked it and it is tight to the body under the rear seat. I attached with a self tapping screw.

I believe that INSTALLER meant what you said, just to make sure the ground is securely placed and sanded underneath!(better contact patch) Other then that it just sounds like perhaps the ohms of your sub is not meant for your amp?

yes I mean what you say...Normally that kind of screws is not the right way. An d I agree is very important always sand underneat.

This morning I took volt readings at the amp, right off of the power and ground terminals. With the engine off I got about 12 and with the engine running about 13-14 - these were taken with the sub running.

I got similar readings off the remote terminal.

I left the engine running with the system playing and when the sub cut out (after 1-2 min), I got all the same readings.

I shut the engine off, then played the system hard for about 15min, with no probs?

I can't figure this out:dunno:

Might not be always possible but have you tried the sub and or amp on a different electrical system?? Example a buddies car or something ?

A self tapping screw isn't really a good enough ground. Under load it will cause problems such as what you are having now. You should always go to a seat or body bolt (something that grabs more than just sheet metal). You said that you ran 4 gauge power wire, so I'd have to assume that you also used 4 gauge for your ground?

Did you take the voltage readings with the car running and the sound cranked up? You need to know what voltage the amplifier is seeing while under a load.
