ok well i have done a search and i was fooling around on the streetwires site, but i just want to be sure. can i run 60 amps on 8 awg wire? i got 60 amps by adding the fuses on the amps(20 and 40). the amps are an Alpine MRP M200 and a Clarion APX401.4. so would it be ok to run both off the same wire? obviously with a distro block, but would it be ok?

Once again, thanks alot guys.

you can do it with 8 guage, but I'd go with 4 guage considering the tiny little price difference. Canadian electrical code says that 8 can handle 70 amperes as a single conductor. however, derating for voltage, you'd end up with about a 10% drop at 4 meters (15 feet or so) running 60 amps through #8 wire. so I'd stick with #4 if I was you.

ok well i would do 4 but i already have the 8 in there... i could do 4 to the distro then do 8 to each amp i guess... the clarion amp would be under the drivers seat, same with the distro

Could i have the wire from batt, to dirtro, split to 2, one going to clarion, 6-8" of wire, then the other going the the rear of the car for the alpine. if i did the wiring like this would i be ok with 8 all the way or should i just buy some 4 for batt to distro?

oh and thanks for the quick response Sassmaster.

I'd definitely go 4 guage from the battery to the distro block, 8 guage after that would be fine.

Since you already have 8 ga in there, you could simply add another 8 ga, and run one to each amp. no need for a dist block then. 8 ga is ok up to 40 amps. If you're going to upgrade later, then use a 4 ga to the sub amp.....the more copper the better, and it's about the only thing in car audio that's chaep to over-kill, so why not?
