when it gets cold, or mainly when my stereo is cold, my left front speakers sound distorted. sort of like they are shorting out. they crackle and sound really quite. i checked all connections and traced the whole signal path. what i have found was when i fiddle with the left line level input knob on my eqx ll it quits. but when it is warm out,(all summer for instance) it does not do it, or even give a hint of it. any ideas what it is and how to remedy??

When it is cold out, my speakers will sound dull for a few minutes until the car warms up and I've played a song or two! My stuff works fine in the summer. Just sounds kind of out of balance when it is cold!

sounds to me like a bad connection on the EQX II, remember that things are always expanding and contracting as temperture changes, this could have been the culpirt of sudden bad connection.

It sounds like there has been a poor connection in the EQ that you didn't notice in the summer because the metal had expanded and was making a good connection. However, as it cooled down, that fraction of a millimeter that the metal contracted caused an OK connection to become crappy. This can be easily fixed if you are willing to open up the EQ and spend a few hours searching for the weak link. Once finding the weak link resolder it.

I did that myself last year with an old HU. The left channel kept cutting out, and when I would play with the volume knob it would work again. I thought for sure that something was shot in the dial. As I played with it with the HU open, my hand accidentally bumped into a cap. When I moved the cap in one direction the signal was gone, the other direction and it returned. I examined the solder job and found that one of the contacts had broken free, but I could only see that it broke free by moving the cap. So I resoldered the connection and it has worked fine ever since.

so do i, i guess it would be wise to leave it hooked up to check all possibilities(is that spelled right?)lol. i got some of that freeze spray so i can isolate each contact and go fron there

It sound like a poor solder connection in the board on the input stage. I have seen some audiocontrol products that have that same problem, usually 1998-1999 product model years. Since I believe Audiocontrol has a lifetime warranty on their products talk to a dealer about having it fixed or at least tested. The only other thing I think it could be is the RCA cable/tip. If you want, grab a set of RCA's and just attach it from your deck straight to your processor and see if it still make the noise while you wiggle it. If it does you know it is in the processor and the problem should be pulled out and fixed.
