Going to build an AP enclosure and am contemplating using the following driver... Here are the T/S Parameters...

Qts - 0.393
Vas - 6.308 cu. ft.
Fs - 24.7
X-Max - 0.18"
Z-Max - 135.6 Ohms

In my readings, I've found that any driver with a Qts of 0.4 or lower (some say 0.35 or lower) will work. The higher the Qts, the more fibreglass required for the membrain. I'm going to be using Audionutz's instructions as the basis for the design.

I'd like to know if there are any formulas that can be used to make the design more objective. It seems like alot of experimentation.

I use a AP system in my car...

The QTS looks OK, the Fs is good..

How many are you using? what size is it? how much power are you using?

I dont like steve heads AP idea.. I believe having the mat match the cone area or at minimum 3/4s the cone area is best.

Its a 12" sub and I'm using only 1. I have about 500W on tap but the driver handles about 125W RMS (400W MAX).

I would have concerns about the system having enough output... Cone area is fairly important..

Not sure what your budget is.. But i would recommend 2: 12's for AP. The Adire shiva's would work fairly nicely i think.

Well the idea of using the AP was to use very little real estate. The vehicle is a hatchback.

BTW - The rest of the system is going to remain stock.

Where are you venting the back to?

You would probably get more output from a sealed 10" then a AP'ed single 12". The sealed 10 would probably take up no more room then the AP 12.

Im all for AP.. Just concerned you might not be happy with the output of it.

Its not my ride... I like to experiment with other people's cars.

It will be vented into the trunk. The owner wanted to utilize this particular woofer (had from a previous install). The sub needs around 1.5-2.0 cu.ft. in a sealed enclosure and alot more ported. Free-air wouldn't be ideal as the sub's response would be quite poor. I though the only option would be AP.

If a new driver is a possibility, then I'd look into a woofer for a small sealed enclosure.

How much different is the output between a sealed and AP setup? 3dB less???
