i already do all of this with my iphone and jvc deck. altought my iphone is not controlled though my deck i still stream utube vids .. watch movies, check out music. and make my calls. If u want a pc in your car.. the easiest way i would this is using a netbook any size u want. place it in your arm rest.. Get a small monitor with touch screen support and place that in the dash. most of all add the tablet soft wear too your net book.

 

more like a giant ipod touch... you can't run your standard program on it since its OS based on the one from the iPhone/Touch. Also the cell support in it is for DATA and not voice.

IMO it's a total POS, since the platform is too restrictive.

At 499, you dont get 3g and you only get 16gb of memory. There are many better options for a car pc. The ipad is junk.

The iPad has a ton of very useful applications around the house and on the go, but for car audio I dont think it is there yet.

For home automation though, this thing will be amazing in 6 months time running Xpanel from Crestron.

Why spend $4000+ on a crestron touchpanel or $2000 for a control4 remote when you can use this in conjunction with the many already available remote platforms available for the iphone. After some tweaking at $499 for a base model this thing is a steal for many uses.

To say the iPad is useless or junk just means you dont understand or care to understand the many applications it can and will be used for. In 2 years time after a few generations things like this will be common place.
