Arc Audio Foose components

I am looking at Arc Audio Foose FD6500 component set. How is this brand? quality? sound? any good?

df.dima 10-10-2006 05:48 AM

I have never personally heard those exact components, but you can be sure arc is top quality.

Sassmaster 10-10-2006 08:50 AM

Arc has always made top end stuff, no question. I havn't heard their speakers, but I know their amps are top end.

belcom 10-10-2006 09:01 AM

have a couple options pending today... MB Quart Premiumn - might be a good price (around $100US) or ARC Audio Foose FD6500 both new ($165US)

I think I'll try to ge the MB Quart and then if that fails then move on to ARC.
Which ones would be a better choice?

Sassmaster 10-10-2006 12:08 PM

quarts are always a good choice, but the tweeters can be a tiny bit harsh.

IMO harsh tweeters are a thing of the past for MB Quart. The last couple years has seen beautiful sounding drivers from Quart with top notch tweets.
I've been toying with the idea of getting a set of QSD216.

I don't know why people in this thread are stating "you can't go wrong with Arc since they make great amps". Just because they make good amps doesn't mean their speakers are as good. If you haven't heard the product I don't see how you can give a blind recommendation for it and call yourself helping in this thread.

I don't think I want the MB Quarts anymore. 2 people said out of 4 that the tweets are too bright/harsh and mid-bass reproduction is lacking and of course what was mentioned in this thread.

Once you realize that most people who respond on threads regardless of the forum you are on have little to no basis for making a qualified response, things might be shown in a different light. Arc makes alright speakers, chances are that these speakers are not even made by ARC but by some sweatshop in Singakoreachinatiawanapore for ARC and branded with the Foose name on it (marketing 101). Does it necessarily mean they are good or bad, depends on what you think and not what someone writes on a forum, especially when that person may have little to no basis to make a qualified judgement call. Is there better than both of these that you are looking at, for sure, is there worse, definitely.

When there was a clearout on Quart speakers, I bought pretty much all they had, got some good specials on them and they are cleared through right away (save for one pair of QSD216, how about that). I too found them to be very easy on the ears and not harsh sounding at all. I have however found the midbass to lack some, especially as compared to the Eclipse components. That said, I would not sell a set of Quarts to just any customer. Warranty on them is next to impossible to get regardless of what you are told by someone selling them. As a authorized dealer, if I have a problem warrantying Quart speakers, so do other people. Quart makes good speakers, the trick is to know if they are right for your application or not.

Again, you have lots of options to consider for speakers. If you are caught up in the buy of the week on a forum, so be it, that is your choice. If you want to invest in a speaker that has a known highly predictable outcome, that would be a better choice.

I don't think there's going to be that much difference in that price range anyways. And I wouldn't send < 200 on a front stage and expect ungodly results from it.
He might hear a difference between the quarts and arc's once installed, assuming he knows what to listen for.
And true, some of Arc's products are not made exactly by themselves, along with half the industry including Alpine etc.

^ some? :ohwell:

n-e-ways, I agree with MR2NR 100%

I have never been much of a MBQ fan. In fact, their tweeters are a favourite whipping boy of mine. I agree though that their product these days is much nicer on the top end. They are still kind of light on the bottom end though.

I have not heard the Arcs.

belcom 10-11-2006 02:42 PM

I was talking to Alvin from Conceptsonwheels today and he mentioned to me that although he carries ARC Foose line he did not recommend it with my amp. Instead he got me convinced that I need the DLS UP6 components and that I can't go wrong with these. The only thing I didn't like was the price of $420+tax which is out of my budget. I will have to look around and see if I can find a better price for these. But at least I now know exactly what I want. Nice guy by the way, he was very helpful.

This sounds like a bunch of fluff to me.... the subs look OK tho...

what is beutel rubber ? poly cones aren't very ideal and Iam skeptical that they are 'composites' (and if they are I hope its plastic and epoxy!)

do they use shorting rings ? how are the crossovers set up and do they have zobel networks ? what are the T/S paramaters ?? how much linear xmax do they have ???

I couldn't find anything on their website....

Dukk 10-11-2006 03:24 PM

^ lol, I would think they mean butyl. Must not translate well ;)

In this price range I would be surprised if the set contained and of the fancies that you listed or if they could provide any real TS parameters.

MR2NR 10-11-2006 03:34 PM

"Uh, yes, hello, I'd like to order some fluff please".

robmar 10-11-2006 07:39 PM

do they supersize fluff?

Dukk 10-12-2006 05:42 PM

^ No but they usually chrome it..

belcom 10-13-2006 10:55 PM

fluff or no fluff I don't care anymore as I bought some DLS UP6s :cheeky4: I think I'm gonna have myself a realy nice sounding system. too bad the weather sucks :ohwell:
