true...
I suppose glassing would be a lot less time-consuming than cutting all those circles... with using a real tire, I guess you could, but if you wanted to use two drives, as Tim did, you'd be SOL, since only one hole in a tire, no? anyhoo boys, thanks for the tips |
That box in Tim truck was solid. Wood is good.
Take the time to do it with the wood, Just my thought but fiberglass never turns out better. |
The 2 rings/fleece was my first thought to do as we are in the age of glassing everything, why go old school and use all MDF.......so I made a small 6" one to see and found that it sagged way to much between the rings, as in sagged inwards, not downwards. Based on this it would take a lot of sanding and body filler to make this look good. So I decided to make a jig for my router to cut 30" diameter rings that were 2" thick. Once I made the jig it only took me about 2 hours to cut 12 rings, a back, a front ring that would flush the baffle and several baffles. I had the whole thing assembled and carpeted in about 5 hours. I made several baffles cause at the time I didn't know what speakers I was going to use. I made them for 2 12", 2 10", 2 10", and 1 15".
Glassing would have taken days to do and would still not be strong as the MDF. |
I would have used fibreglass but then we talked about that already

I notice on that install you used dampener on the inside frame of the door... did you also put any on the outer skin of the door? is it recommended?
