Audio System question - fuse related

Well I installed and wired up my new system this weekend, and everything worked great when I powered it up.

I ended up going out and the music was working great for a while, about 30mins of driving.

All of a sudden it started to smell like something burning, and then no sound. So I shut off the deck, and when I got to my destination checked the amp, and learned that the fuse was blown/melted.

My question is, what would case this to happen? Something overheated? speakers, amp?

Help is appreciated.

Thanks

Most amps have built in protection and will shut down when overheated. Without knowing the scope of your system I think the best place to start would be the wiring. If you have a big amp with lots of wattage but are running like 16 gauge wire to supply it, things could definitely get warm. That goes for ground as well as voltage supply.

It seemed to have been an impedance problem.

I was running my 4ohm speakers at 2ohms.

I changed it around to running at the proper 4 ohms, so I'll see if the problem happens again.
