Hello,

Hi I'm new here just having moved to Timmins from Texas and was hoping to get some opinions regarding some subs I bought from a friend. They're the SLS-300's (2x12"). Now that I'm in Timmins the concept of "auditioning" pieces pretty much goes out the window, so I took a friends advice on a set of SQL subs. The rest of my system will be, as I've already purchased the pieces, the following:

head unit - Denon Z1
Sub amp - Zapco 6.0
Front amp - Zapco 4.0
Front end - AVI Tristar BSM's
EQ - Zapco EQ30's
Add'l Processing - Zapco VFM to control Sub volume
Balanced all around
180 sq.ft. of Rammat and 50 sq.ft. of L-Comp
-No power accessories yet

It's taken me over a year to compile the pieces, some used, some new. Learned a lot about doing biz over the net, lol. Anyways, when I went to Vancouver on business I heard the Tristar's and fell in love with 'em. My friend mentioned that the SLS-300's were a bargain next to the other drivers I was considering and with good install would be as good next to IDMAX's, 13W7, Focal, etc. I was just wondering what y'all think of them for the above system.

I know that speaker selection is a personal thing, but given my location, any and all help would be very appreciated. In addition, I do like to pound out tunes now and then, but my primary goal is SQ.

Thanks in advance,

Doug

Welcome to the board, sounds like you will have a slick setup. Here is a link to the AVI site, if you want to check out some different box designs:

Good stuff. I wouldn't normally buy without auditioning, but my friend's got a pretty good ear. I'm also glad some BC boys replied since AVI has a strong following out there.

As a side note, I really miss BC! Left in 2001 when I got transfered...biggest mistake I ever made...

Thanks! I asked Bong from AVI regarding boxes, and he passed me on to Speaker City. I used to live a few blocks away from 'em. They didn't seem to enthused by the SLS's. They mentioned some Focals, so that worried me a bit. Regardless, thanks for the info.

Droy, you must have talked to Grant at Speaker City. He prefers Focal subs {and speakers} over AVI.
I have two AVI SLS 300's and BSM-160 comps in my truck from Speaker City and i really like the sound of all of it. My setup is aimed at SQ mostly but i like to turn it up too and my subs and comps perform very well for me in both respects.

Good stuff! I've been anxiously hoping that someone with the 300's would speak up. BTW, what size box you hauling? I initially bought 'em to put into a sealed box, but am now considering a ported one. Any thought?

Thanks in advance,

Doug
