Is this a bad time of year to buy a head unit?

I am wanting to purchase a new head unit for my 05 Jeep Liberty, I currently have a Sony with MP3 cap but I want something that I can plug a thumb drive into. I don't have an ipod but I have a lot of thumbdrives.

What is important to me:

Ease of navigation through the folder trees on the thumb drive

A face plate that is not hard to remove or put back on, my sony one is terrible, you have to hold your tongue just right to get it to click in.

Sound quality, seems they all are pretty much going to sound the same, am I wrong?

I do listen to the radio, yeah FM, I like local news and the local morning show.
I have heard that Pioneer has a much better tuner then Kenwood.

The Pioneer deck I wanted is no longer available, the DEH-P600UB, seems to be the easiest to take off and put back on, I am concerned about the folder access though, when the dealer here had one they didn't have the usb port accessable for me to try it out.

It looks like the new line of Kenwood decks are out Is the KDC-X993 worth the money?

Thank you in advance for you help

Jai

A little more info, as far as sound quality goes, am I going to notice a big difference between decks if I am not replacing factory speakers?

The replacement for the Pioneer deck is not out yet, was told sometime in May... Hence the bad time of year.

Responded in the other thread.... The Eclipse for me is what I would choose based on tonal response alone. It is a great unit for navigation through the USB and system expansion. If you are still after the Pioneer 600UB, I have one left in stock.

If your comparing one aftermarket deck to another then no there's not much of a difference. But comparing aftermarket do your stock head unit there's prolly a huge difference.

I have a Sony deck in there now. It was purchased in Jun of 2006. It does not have a usb input.

That Kenwood model (692) I have found here in town for $179.99 at a local dealer.

a Pioneer 600UB for $210.00

and an Elclipse CD3200 for $300.00

Thoughts?
