Batteries..

Well, I need a new battery. Not just because my battery dies after about 15 minutes of play time..but today I left the doors open for about 15 minutes while I was vacuuming the car out..and I put the seat back (their power seats)..when I cranked it, you could tell it only had enough for one crank in it.

Its just your average Canadian tire battery..and Im sure its been in the car for years. So..Ive heard good things about the gell-cell yellow tops. Optima is it? For a 99 GP how much am I looking at? Also..my car is set up for side posts..is this going to be a problem?

Optima is around $200 retail. I think Canadian Tire sells other dry cells like Exile or something. Might be a bit cheaper. Regular battery is around $100. Pay a bit more, and the battery will pay for itself. Its only 100 bux more. I say, dont be cheap, and buy a good one.

I have an Optima Red Top and it does a pretty good job. I baught it at wal-mart for like $180 or something like that. You can get cheaper dry-cell batteries but I wouldn't recomend it. As far as the side posts go, most of the high end batteries will have both top and side posts.

If I'm buying a new battery I'm defiantly going to get the best one. Somebody told me they can run their stereo on a normal dry cell for like 20 minutes, and on the yellow top they can for like 2 hours and still crank the car. True?

Also, are my side posts going to be an issue? Where can I get a yellow top?

Most yellow tops are Top and side post, so its not an issue as far as I know , the only issue you might have is fitting a good sized yellow top in your car!!

2 questions..

1. does anyone run either of these Motomaster Eliminator spiral cell batteries? :

smaller version: http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp
larger version: http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp

2. do these perform as well as the yellow tops and does "spiral cell" also mean its like the "gel cells" that are in the yellow tops?

thx

when I had my grandprix I could run the stereo for several hours and still start the car and that was witht he stock AC Delco battery. However the voltage was much lower than normal. Canadian tire does not sell Optima products but Wal-mart does, but they may only have the Redtop which is a very good battery. You may have to go to a automotive specialty shop to get the yellow top. What is it that you are going to be running and with what size of wires?

I don't run one but I seriously considered it. They're made by Exide and a good quality battery. Same technology as the Optima.

so theyre considered a "gel cell" ? also, they must be similar to the Orbital then, correct?

The correct name is 'starved electrolite' but yes they are the same idea.
