Did you try Ebay? Seems to be the best place to get everything around here...

Brospeed 11-18-2004 02:26 PM

I've tried ebay. but anything thats a good deal either doesnt ship to canada. or just isnt worht it after the shipping.

Brospeed 11-18-2004 02:36 PM

and I'd also like to give some local companies my business.

Had a look at www.genuinecanadianaudio.com ?

For the 2g look at your local welding supply shop. Very cheap. As well as some of the connectors for 4g and larger. As for the other stuff, maybe try a local audio shop as they likely have bulk.

Home Depot has been a good place for me. The only thing they didn't have was big gauge power wire and distro blocks, but it may vary by the individual store.

Hardwrkr 11-18-2004 04:10 PM

Most of what you need can be had for cheaper than ebay at Princess Auto.
They usually have a selection of car audio distro blocks, ring terminals, RCA's, power/speaker wire. For the big gauge stuff use their welding wire.

MIKEONE 11-18-2004 04:39 PM

hey guys...i thught this was a car audio website... how about supporting your local independant car audio stores? it really pisses me off sometimes to hear some of the comments on this forum. if you dont support your local shops it will suck pretty hard when all u have left is x@#%&s cargo and ebay, think about it!

unfortunatly the dollar is what most people consider loyaly

ShockingCanada 11-18-2004 05:27 PM

from what I have heard the markup on wiring accessories is enormous...thats fine if they want to sell a piece of 1/0 gauge wire for $9.99 a foot but to buy it from them would be retarded

Sassmaster 11-18-2004 08:51 PM

^ agreed

I'd rather get my wire from someplace that's not going to rape me on the price.

I paid 1.99/ft for my 1/0 power wire for my new car (well my new, new car, now that my new civic got written off) as opposed to 5-10 bucks/foot at local shops. Sure it's all black welding cable, but a little bit of red and black wire loom will make it look pretty under the hood

Hardwrkr 11-18-2004 10:45 PM

Unfortunately, some shops believe staying loyal to their cutomers still entails a 300% markup on some products.

I go to the local welding shop for all my wire and accesories.

This is a car audio site.

Since when does being a car audio enthusiast mean that you have to take it up the pooper by your local retailer?

I'd LOVE to shop locally and support them. But none of them support any of the things I care about. (ie; not one single spl show this year)

All they care about is making money and they don't see the profitability in holding a show. Well that's fine. All I care about is saving money, and I don't see the benefit in payin 3x the price for wire.

Mikeone - do you buy all repair parts, oil filters, air cleaners, waxes, etc. from the auto dealer who sold your car to you? Does picking up a new Fram from CanTire make someone a scab?

I'm not advocating mass Ebay shopping but I can relate to people not wanting to spend extreme dollars on wire. IMO if a guy wants to buy bulk welding cable at Princess auto rather than Stinger, Streetwires, whatever then that's his deal.

On the flipside, "real" car audio wiring and accessories have never been cheaper. Average price for an AGU fusepipe these days is $12. The first one I bought from Phoenix Gold in 1989 retailed for $79!!

BigRedGuy 11-19-2004 07:16 PM

Brospeed, AA Electronics at 1350 Matheson Blvd. E. carries all the stuff you're looking for...no-name of course, but the prices are pretty good...

welding shop for the big wire

and my local car auido retailer can suck my balls instead of selling me a peice of 1/0 for $7/foot

Sassmaster 11-21-2004 03:22 PM

the one area that Yuli and I agree on.

So then my 5$ per foot 1/0 at cost is not that bad then. Yeah I think the same way too.

I paid 1.43 per foot for 1/0 welding cable.

SQLStephen 11-21-2004 07:05 PM

Here's a good idea: check around the various car audio forums, guy's are practically giving it away most times. I bought 40 feet of Stinger O awg for like $50.00 US shipped!! :D Cost the guy $14.77 for shipping. lol
Sometimes you'll score a good deal, it takes a bit of waiting though. ;)

Welding cable is kool too, maybe hit up your local shops via phone calls.

Brospeed 11-23-2004 02:38 PM

ive been browsing around, havent seen too much latley. The shop i deal with doesnt seem to want to give me a deal on the connectors $ 1$ ea... a little nutty.

Midnight Sun... YGPM

Brospeed 11-23-2004 02:41 PM

Oh. and i probably should mention that i dont mind paying more for things like distro blocks. and battery terminals etc... so i can get a better brand. because ya get what you pay for with those things.

Yeah, wouldn't want to get stuck with a low quality brass block

slow/n\low 11-23-2004 05:00 PM

All this is quite funny..

The same guy who bitches about price of wiring and accessories goes out and buys a pair of Levi jeans at 70% mark up.

Or every day gets a big mac combo at 300% mark up

Why not ask Mickey D's For a deal?

Price is the Price because its called an economy.. all this online shopping will hurt in the end when you have no shop to even go into for a demo because they cant stay float.

There is many people who work in the industry as I myself have before. They understand what costs go into running a shop. If there wasnt mark up then they wouldnt be there.

Oh and why is there hardly an shows like there was in the mid 90's cause the cost outways the return on investment.

Anyone can get a deal on nice wire if they just use a little sales ability themselves.

Paul Niwranski 11-24-2004 01:33 PM

No way man - I bought my last 3 BigMacs from Ebay and they kicked ass

slow/n\low 11-24-2004 05:23 PM

^ Exactly, Get over it. If you cant understand that every industry has huge mark up then get a new hobby that doesnt involve you having to save your allowance

Everything should be cheap so I can afford it.. "its just not fair I cant buy nice things because it just costs to much"

Welcome to the real world

Oh and the princess auto stuff that is cheap is also marked up 40% so when you go there you should bitch to them too!! :D

I don't mind paying full price for my equipment, I've paid full retail for most of the gear that I've ever bought. Recently, I've had a few friends with connections who were willing to help me out a little, and considering that the equipment I've bought through them isn't available in canada for the most part, and the equipment that is available here isn't stocked by any local dealers, I don't think I've hurt any local retailers.

On the wire issue, Why would I pay 350% more for an inferrior product?
Car audio wire, for the most part, does not carry a ULc or CSA listing, which means that it's performance and safety are not, or can not be, matched or verified against similar products which do carry those listings and certifications.

Also, when I buy welding cable, the markings on the jacket tell me what material the jacket is made of, what voltage it is good for, and what temperature range it will operate reliably in. Where are those markings on car audio wire? or aren't they "pretty" enough to make it?

You're probly asking what this REALLY has to do with why I buy welding cable instead of car audio wire. It is illegal by law to install anything that is not CSA and ULc listed. Period, and I refuse to do so when there is an alternative.

veeman 11-26-2004 07:29 PM

Sorry Mike one, but loyalty works both ways. The last five shops I have been to gave me big attitude, I guess to match their big prices. I have no problem supporting my local stereo shop, but don't treat me like a chump and don't f*****g rip me off. Retailers, not just stereo shops, have got to realize that customer service is what brings people back. I work hard for my money and I don't need some wise ass salesman giving me the gears when I ask them a question. There are at least 10 other places to spend your money for any given product, and I refuse to give my money to someone that does not give a little respect.
Sorry for the rant.

slow/n\low 11-26-2004 09:40 PM

I would absolutly agree with customer service. I dont shop in some places because I am never happy with thier service.

As far as the prices go if they are not inline with other shops then I also would not shop there.

When you mean big prices,do you mean certain stores or the prices in general?
