Best Reasonably Priced Head Unit
I am looking for a new head unit for my 04 vw jetta. Just wondering which unit will be the best bang for my buck? Looking to spend around 200-300 dollars so any input would be great. I will be adding new front components and then upgrading the rear components at a later time. Also will be adding a sub at a later time...just one step at a time i guess.

New or used? Alpine and Pioneer will have the most products to choose from |

you can get one of kenwood's excelon models in that price range... possibly even with bluetooth biult in
check their site |
Remember to budget for the install harness. An 04 VW is not cheap to go. Antenna adapter at 15-25 and the harness adapter is over 100.

I do indeed still have some CD5030 left. Here is a link, drop me a pm when you are ready.

Well thanks a lot for the replies...ill pm about the eclipse 5030 but I'm not leaning towards that deck because i hear they are not the cheapest lol. I was looking at the Alpine IDA-X303...anyone have experience with this deck?

some pretty nice decks in the upper 200's. Some with 24 bit dac's, lots of features and good brand names. They will all sound good, I'd just look for the features I want and the one that appeals to my senses the most...and by the way the x 303 has no cd player just so you are aware.

The eclipse will cost me close to 400 bucks as the Alpine will be about 270. So it is a hard call. |

Yes I am aware that it has no cd player and I am ok with that. I don't listen to CD's anymore...it's the ipod now. Only thing I do not like is the fact that the Alpine does not have radio presets :(

The alpine does have radio presets, it just doesn't have the dedicated preset buttons across the bottom like most other decks. There is one button on the front you press then you use the scroll wheel to pick the preset.
I have decided to go with the eclipse cd5030. Someone mentioned that i will need a wiring adapter for the unit to work? Where can I find this? |

MR2NR can hook you up with everything you'll need. :)

if your looking at the 303, I'd say bite the bullet and jump to the 305. The screen is just so much nicer. If you haggle the salesman a bit you could definately get into the $300 range for sure.
