Best small volume sealed 10 inch sub
 

Hey I've searched a ton but still undecided on application for a boat.

I have a JL 6450 amp which will put 250 to 300 watts to a sub but I am confined on space. I've read about the shallow subs but they all look to need about 0.5 to 0.6 cubic to perform well, so I thought maybe just a regular 10 inch would do such as a jl10w3??? Any suggestion on a good sub that will go low volume and sound good in sealed box would be a help. Where I find it tough is resources to say if the sub is a better one sealed or vented.

I wouldn't recommend a ported enclosure on a boat. Water + Electricity = Bad. Instead check out a Marine certified subwoofer like the Polk Db series. They handle about 300 watts rms and can be crammed into a sealed eclosure anywhere from .6 to 1.5 cubic feet. They also have a top mounted depth of 5 1/2 inches. There are also marine specific products from Kicker, Rockford and other companies for you to shop around.

Hmmm, last boat I did with a pair of DD 10's in a couple of slot port boxes = stupid loud and annoyed everyone on the lake.

What space do you have available for the sub is the question I need answered. Mounting depth and overall box dimensions for example.

0.6 cube or less.

.6 cuf can be made many different ways, whats the max depth a sub can be in your case? be sure to take into account the size of the material you will be using.

Sorry I should have given more info, Box can be rectangular about 5 to 6 inches depth max. From my calculations based on 6 inches that's where I decided sealed low volume was max about 0.6 ft squared.

I'm leaning towards a clarion sfw1051 or wait to see the cost on the new RFosgate, Alpine and Kenwood shallow subs and enclosure requirement. On the net though I have not been able to find much info on optimal sealed volumes vs minimum volumes, I don't want to have a small volume enclosure that sounds bad based on the manufacturers Min volumes. From what I've seen they report about 0.35 to 0.4 for a 10 inch shallow. I know there are lots of regular subs that can down to about 0.6 but most need more than 6 inches mounting depth.

the dd 1010 is like 6 inches,
the 2510 is about 6 aswell,
from what rob has described to me either of these sub's packs alot of punch.
the 10xx series is for lower power to mid range amps, 300-500w's.
send a pm to jordyO the mod, he has a big sale going on the dd stuff right now, maby he has one that will fit your budget.

and you can also make a trim ring to space the sub out a bit more, or you could invert it, but thats not a good idea for a boat lol.

And the new Earthquake shallow mount sub is evidentally quite the shiznit for a small sealed box as well. I am getting info on this line shortly.

The Clarions work well but Infinty 1050W and JBL GTO1004 are very shallow as well. No paper cone to get wet either. :)
