So you agree changing the phasing around can make a huge difference? Cure distortion? I thought it was done mostly for the sake of imaging. I have run the tweets on the main tweeter hook up but it sounded terrible. I guess I'll try a bunch of different phasing next weekend but I still want to hear some good sound to at least get a bench mark.

So...I'll try changing all the phasing around on Sunday. Saturday, road trip to Custom Audio Radio and Selective Sound. Any other suggestions?

Can you explain what is wrong with your sound? Is the sub playing fine or is just your components that sound bad... or aren't getting loud enough?

Any pics of how you installed the speaker?

The best way to see what I've done so far is to follow the link to diyma I pasted on page 1. I have pics and links to the speakers and amps there.

No pictures that I can link to.

mid in the stock location,

I have a single layer of Dynamat Extreme,

1/2" mdf baffles coated with hard bedliner bolted to the doors with loc-nuts,

foam that came with my old Infinity Kappas on the back of the mid,

4- 5/8" screws attaching the mid to the baffle,

stock grills on the door panels,

tweeter mounted about 8" above the mid on the door panel,

crossovers in the kicks,

12 ga everywhere except from the crossover to the tweet, 16 ga there. I bought the wire at Crappy Tire. It has blue and clear coatings over copper and aluminum wires. I don't know if that's bad to use but I'm starting to wish I'd went with something else...another new project.

As for how they sound...not good. I don't really know how to describe it. Flat, tinny, and harsh...is that even possible? A few people have told me "it sounds okay..."I would love to know how an expert would describe it but to me it just sounds cheap. I may not know the difference, thus the road trip to listen to some others. At least check to see if my ears still work.

Oh yeah... if this phasing and tuning thing doesn't work out, I'll be looking for a good used amp that I can compare with the one I'm using. I hope it's not the amp, I really like that amp.
