The best SPL woofers?

Who can tell me which 10 and 12 inch subwoofers are the best for SPL purposes? (brand/model)

DD 9500 or maybe atomic apxx or maybe kicker solo x or maybe RE xxx or maybe do you see where im goin with this theres like a million manufactures of great spl drivers buy them all and let us know.lol

Heheh.... good strategy, and as for the RE, the MT would probably be a better candidate.

I hope SPLX's are cause that's what I think I'll be running next.:dunno:

Re sx,mt or xxx, what kind of power are you running?

JordyO 11-02-2006 07:02 AM

Sorry but the RE XXX is not a sub that should be recommended for flat-out SPL.

I'll agree with the SX, MX, and MT... but the XXX has never proven to be an spl sub.

Atomic APX

Agreed.

How about the DD9900 series?

Where did you get your statistics from? I've seen the XXX in action 1 12" hitting 158.1. It's a power hungry sub but it will keep pushing with power.

Where are you getting YOUR stats from? The XXX (prior ot the new '06 model) was never a power hungry sub such as the likes of the RE MT or Kicker SoloX. One can run quite nicely on 750rms without having to go overboard on enclosure size. To say the XXX will keep going and going as you push the power even the guys at RE (prior to the split) would say that anything more than 2000rms for a XXX daily is alot of power. Yes you can run more for SPL comps but if SPL numbers are what you want the reason of the MT in their lineup was this sole purpose as it will take the power and get louder.
The XXX was designed and marketed as a great sounding sub that could handle enough power to get seriously loud. It is not a pure SPL sub and hence will get spanked by a true SPL sub.
For daily driving though it's one of the best at doing what it was designed to do: pure, clean, SUB bass duties (and I say subbass as you better have some midbass speakers that can go low as the XXX doesn't have much on tap higher than 60Hz).

As for the original poster of this thread, there is no BEST SPL sub just as there is no best HU, mid, tweet, etc. There's only what's best for the application which takes into consideration power, enclosure, frequency, vehicle, etc.
There are however great choices to choose from but no one but trial and error in your vehicle/application is going to know which is the best choice.
Give the guys here your power on tap and the enclosure space you have to work with and they'll give you some good choices.
