Which is the better processor?
 

Hi all! New to the forum and I have a question I can't find answers elsewhere. I have a 2011 Dodge Charger with the "premium" Alpine system. It consists of 4 6x9 midbass in the front door and rear deck, 5 3.5 "highs" in the dash and rear doors, and an 8" 2-Ohm DVC infinite baffle sub in the rear deck.

I'm going to keep the speaker locations, including the sub, as they are. I want to upgrade to 3-way component sets with tweeters in the "a" pillars. My main issue is the factory amp. It's a 503 watt amp that performs alright for being stock, but I know I can do so much better.

I've never worked with sound processors before, and the two I'm looking at right now are the JBL MS-8 (which is sadly discontinued) or the Alpine PXA-H800. I'm leaning towards the JBL because, according to the documentation, it only needs the output from the front right and left channels, and can accept it as a high-level input. I don't know if the Alpine allows that or not.

I haven't decided on my amp setup, either. I thought it would be best to sort out the processor issue first. So, what do you guys think? Are my picks any good, or have I overlooked something that would work better for my setup? Thanks!

Hey Soup, you cannot just add a processor to the system. It has factory crossovers on the speaker lines and you have to use a processor with a "input summing" input. I have only used Helix DSP/DSP Pro and Audison Bit One. I hear that Mosconi has one, but I have never used it. They are several amplifiers that have this feature built in. You can use the Mosconi 6to8 which will take in 6 channels and spit back out 8ch for a huge system or one that has active fronts.
With the mosconi you will have summing and also crossover points, which is what allows you to go active. This will really help with tuning anything in the vehicle.
If everything is staying stock, I can't really suggest a good amp.
I suggest a the 6to8 and then using a cost effective amp that covers all the channels. With the stream of higher power, the system will have new stronger sound and with the DSP, you would have maximized their potential playing capability.
I did this with a young kids truck. We added a 13tw5, running with stock speakers and used a 4to6 with a 5ch kenwood excelon amp that was giving his sub the 600 watts it needed with 45 to each speaker and then tuned the best it could be. His truck was a lease so he needed an upgrade but nothing involved. the amp is throw away but he has a kick ass sub and DSP.
