Bit of a Subwoofer Problem
Hey so here's the issue:
I have been running a Phoenix Gold X10d4 sub in a sealed box for about a year. It has been powered by a Alpine MRP-M650 and i have been very satisfied with the sound and especially how tight the sub hits.
I let my brother take my car out to get some food and when he came back he said the sub wasn't working and when he got in the car it wasn't working either. I took a good look at it and the cone has a decent crack in it so I'm assuming that's the only problem with the system since I am getting voltage out of my amp just fine.
My diemma: recone (if possible) ? or buy another 10" sub.
I'm not sure if kits are available for this sub or if it's even worth reconing... what do you think? I prefer buying used and I wouldn't mind buying another 500-600w rms woofer as long as it would sound similar.
Thoughts?
(oh and ps. did the sub spontaneously do this or did he have it turned up too loud haha)

My suggestion is that your Bro put in for a new subwoofer that will work in that cabinet (lot's to choose from), because the "crack" that you mention indicated the woofer bottomed out, or the voice coil moved faster than the cone did, cracking it.
yes it was too loud try adding a 2nd. woofer?

Yes he blew it, it could have also cracked if something fell on it?
I hope he was easier on your engine than he was with your sound system.
The brand name of the woofer won't matter as much as the right cabinet.
PG like many others is a good brand name.
Find out the air volume of your cabinet, and find the appropriate sub for it, and if you can, have a listen to different ones in the same cabinet.
